Almost final, final reveal of my tiny, tiny kitchen

last modified: 9 years ago

So, after a year of gutting and rebuilding our never been touched 1972 house for a year, we move in tomorrow. I was hoping to post completely finished photos, but alack that is not how my life works so these will have to suffice. The only thing that is missing is the hood and backsplash. The hood we wanted won't work due to the pitch in the roof, so I think we are just going to go with cabinet fronts and a loner. The backsplash will ultimately be white back painted glass. Please be kind--I know it is small. The aisle is 48" wide and on the backside of the range wall are floor to ceiling cabinets that I am counting as part of the kitchen.

Thanks to to all for the advice given over the last, oh five years. I would have never learned about BlueStar, capture are or fire and ice had it not be for you folks so generous with your time and knowledge. I am not worthy.

Sorry, I had some picture posting issues, but I think they posted now.

Ooh all I care about is that great open opening to the yard. Everything looks great.

It's absolutely gorgeous. But I sure wouldn't call it tiny --- or even small.

It's actually one of my favourite kitchens that has been posted in a while. If it had a brick back splash I would be swooning right now! It is different and fresh and looking out into your yard? *sighs* Love it love it love it!!

Sleek & clean! Congrats! I, too, was expecting something smaller.

Bet you cannot wait to begin cooking in your new kitchen. I look forward to reading more details about your choices.

Amck2, what details would you like to know? I am an open book. Range is BlueStar, dw is Bosch, hansgrohe faucet, Sagatsune pulls and Crystal Cabinetry. Fridge us a custom panel Therm. Countertop is Caesarstone cement. The range is my favorite part--and the custom panel fridge. I do love the picture windows. It was all closed off brick before and it was my idea to put accordion doors, but we live in Texas and couldn't justify the $10k price tag so two huge windows and a swing door were the substitutes.

Beautiful. What a great wood grain. Is it walnut?..

Backsplash sounds wonderful. Hope you'll post pictures when completed. And..Not small at all.

PS already have a question lol..where do you get painted glass? Or you just get glass-and then paint it? What kind of paint? Sorry it just gave me idea about some problem I'm trying to currently solve..thanks in advance!

I totally agree with Medha Pai. This is a stunner! I want finish details (cabinet materials, floor, counters) and more photos so I can piece together how it fits in the larger space, after you recover from your move. (So fun to see another galley. We should start a support group).

ETA: just saw counter info. Looks great!

I love it! If my galley kitchen could grow up, I'd want it to look exactly like yours. I can't wait to see more. I remembered your fridge from a photo you posted a while back to help another person with their integrated fridge and fell in love then. Is this an MCM house?

Thanks, everyone. It means a lot coming from y'all. Cpartist, sleek and calming was what I was going for. I am glad I succeeded.

April, we ordered the back painted backsplash through the same glass company that provided our bathroom mirrors and shower doors.

Yes, the cabinets are a walnut finish and they did a fantastic book end matching job. I know a poster here had a miserable experience with Crystal, but ours has been fantastic. At the slightest hint of something not great, they are all over the solution.

Sf_treat, what type of wood are your floors? Also, is that a metal strip behind your outlets? I love love your kitchen. Can I ask what white paint you used?

It's gorgeous! I love the mix of walnut & white cabinets with the Caesarstone Cement. Great choices on everything. Love your cabinet hardware, your faucet, your range & your floor. What is the floor?

sf_treat, thank you so much for your answer!

I love, love walnut and white..and walnut and cream..actually, walnut and almost anything..or just walnut)) To me, it's one of the most beautiful woods.

Again, great kitchen, and looking forward for the final reveal

I love it. Oh, the floor is fabulous. What is it? Site finished or pre? This is NOT a tiny kitchen to me. It's just the right size.

Your kitchen is beautiful. Look at all that gorgeous counter space and I love the way the floor flows out into that stunning window. You may think your kitchen is small but it sure doesn't play small. Nice planning.

Everything works together so well. You made the most out of your space and that is a big accomplishment. BTW my kitchen is smaller than yours in my new build and it is just right for the 2 of us. Floor is gorgeous as well as the cabs and island.

Your kind words really mean so much. As has been discussed on this forum many times from many people, the plan the architects drew up had lots of form and no function, so I took the bull by the horns, applied everything I learned here, and made my own modifications. To be honest, I am still not completely sure I understand the fire, ice thing but what's done is done and I think I stuck to the jist of it. Time will tell.

The floor is engineered pre finished white oak in 7.5" planks. It is from a store here called Hardwood Bargains and they call it White Imperia. The installers were key. They hid all the knotty and veiny parts where no one will see it and the family room, on the other side of my walnut run, is gorgeous. I will see if I can rustle up a picture of anyone is interested.

Guco45, yes that is a metal strip that holds the outlets if my electrician ever decides to show up again, the outlets will be stainless as well. The painted white walls are all BM Super White and the cabinets are Crystal's Designer White

Anitamo, I think the house would be called soft contemporary, not so much MCM. I would have loved to go pure MCM, but my husband still prefers San Francisco traditional, so this is all I got I will post my bathroom pics in the bathroom forum at some point.

Tiny may be a relative term. I live in Texas, where "everyone" has two islands: one for cooking and one for the guests to gather around. I barely have a peninsula, Well, less to clean for me It is my dream kitchen--we have just had large U shaped kitchens before, so it is a it of an adjustment what I should really do is post before pictures with the orange Formica and the golden harvest stove.

    We love pictures. Post away!

As I stand around waiting for the movers to pack things up.....here are some photos of the floor from when it was first laid. This is the family room right next to the kitchen. The house came open floor plan and we were too cheap to change it. We have never lived in an open concept.

Your home is beautiful. Your kitchen is dreamy. Right out of a magazine. Well done!!

The entire space is gorgeous, but I am especially loving that floor! I had to google Hardwood Bargains. Figures they're not in the DFW area. :(

The big picture windows are awesome, bringing in all that glorious sunlight. Looking forward to seeing updated pics after you're settled in the new digs.

sf_treat - how do you like your floor? how is it holding up? I'm looking at some floors from hardwood bargains. the samples are impressive, but I'm in Philadelphia so I'm going to have to pay some pretty hefty shipping. The price is low enough that even with the shipping it will be reasonable compared to some other options, but I'm concerned about ordering something that I basically can't return. (I could but I'd have to pay ANOTHER shipping charge)

If this is tiny, than what is my 10 x 10 kitchen? Microscopic? lol. Your very nice open concept gives the feeling of a lot of space, love the glass door. Looks to be a very functional space nice cooking/prep area.

Our galley is 8x8. :) No room to expand. This kitchen is a beautiful, unattainable dream for us. Good job!
