Can't uninstall Open Office

last modified: 9 years ago

We downloaded OpenOffice 4.1.2 onto my acer laptop. Within 10 min. decided to uninstall it. Went to start - control panel - programs and features - clicked on OpenOffice 4.1.2 then clicked uninstall. It won't uninstall, I keep getting this message..

"Please exit OpenOffice 4.1.2 and the OpenOffice 4.1.2 Quickstart before you continue. If you are using a multi-under system, also make sure that no other user has OpenOffice 4.1.2 open."

It's not open, there's no other users, I just keep getting the same message. I closed all programs and restarted computer, same results.

Help please?

The "within 10 minutes" part leads me to suggest turning the PC off, turn it back on again, then without doing anything else, go directly to the Control Panel and try to uninstall it. I bet it will work normally.

As an alternative, there's not really a need for (or a benefit to) uninstalling something you're not using. A program system like this can be left as is without doing any harm.

Thank you all. Finally got rid of it. Tried brushwork's way, didn't work. Finally had to download Revo Uninstaller suggested by aputernut. It work!

Thank you again everyone for your help, I really appreciate it.

Try installing LibreOffice instead. It's similar to MS Office 2003 with drop-down menus and toolbars you can customize.

Seems that the developers of OpenOffice moved over to Libre as OpenOffice was no longer updating their software.

I and many others like the fact we can open MS documents, work on them and save them in MS format.

Also a cinch to save in PDF format.

Try it. Think you'll like it and it's free.

I have been using LibreOffice 5, for years since I am a writer and it's great!
