Searching for a nice, small cross body bag

last modified: 9 years ago

I'll be traveling overseas to meet my newest GDD. DH & I will be taking the 3 yr old GDD on outings to town & nearby beach. I'll be bringing my large MZ Wallace bag but it's dark & big for casual beachside strolls. I'm looking for something light (in weight & color) hands free and well made that's compact enough to wear at playgrounds and the amusement park.

Any you'd recommend?

I have a small (maybe 6" long and 4" tall) quilted Vera Bradley purse that I always use when travelling. It has a long strap for carrying cross-body and closes completely with a zipper, and it's small enough to tuck between me and DH in an airplane seat. It's just big enough for my phone, keys, reading glasses and a couple of small things like a pack of gum or small tube of ibuprofen.

Eek. Might want to put a hyphen between "cross" and "body".

    Lol.

Baggalini makes great bags for travel. Lightweight, sturdy, secure zippers, colorful inner lining, often with multiple pockets for organization. TJMaxx usually has a few different styles for $20 and up.

I like Baggalini too. You can also look at Kipling. I have a very small one that I bought for my Italy trip. I was amazed at how much you could put in it.

Sherpani has some cute cross-body bags. I have one of their small, purse-size backpacks in a faded plum color and I get compliments every time I use it. I just looked on Zappos and only saw black/white and black/yellow, but you may be able to find some other colors elsewhere.

I have a lightweight Baggalini that I like, and also a Pacsafe that is lightweight for overseas travel.

Here is a page full of Kipling bags. Check for additional colors under each style.

I don't usually look at crossbody bags because I need something larger. But I noticed Coach has some really cute ones for the new season. I know Coach has become too 'everywhere' and young. But I've been a fan since way back when they were made in the U.S..

I have a couple of small cross-body baggalini's, too. They hold everything you need and are lightweight.

I'm always concerned about RFID card skimming, so I like to use Pacsafe bags. I currently carry a leather TUMI crossbody bag with RFID lining, but I don't see it for sale any where. You can also get a RFID-blocking wallet.

I bought this back in 2013 for trips to Europe. It's not real leather and is rain proof. I just sling it over one shoulder. It's so comfortable I use it still on a daily basis. It's only starting to look "used" so time for another. I think it's on eBay for less. See, not very big, but just right.

I think the manakin must be tiny because it doesn't look that big on.

I will second the Baggalini bags also,I have three. My current cross body doubles as a clutch and they do not make this particular style anymore which is a little more dressy.

I just checked their site and they are having a 20% extra off sale styles. Several have RFID protection.

Amck2, I'm looking for one for travel, too. I got lost on Etsy. If you google "small crossbody bag" there are endless options and so many cute ones. I'm trying to decide what size I need (cell phone/passport only, or slightly larger) and what safety features I want.

Haha, Tibbrix! My teens are home for summer and it's the halfway mark where they're driving me a bit crazy. My mind went to "body bag" too!

People who have Kipling bags: Do you leave the little critter on it?

Yes, I even have a Kipling wallet with a little gorilla. Love them, and they are all named. ;-) Have been using Kipling bags for about 10 years, and there is no wear showing on even my oldest bag.

Oh thanks for this recommendation, Terriks. I really need one with safety features and was getting sidetracked by the cuteness on Etsy.

Linelle, I took mine off, but I gave one to my sister and she kept hers on.

Linelle, I have had 2 Kipling bags over the years and have always taken the critter off.

Both a Baggalini and Travelon fan, loved the Travelon for traveling to Paris and Rome where pick-pocketing is a big problem.

I just ordered my first Kipling online in go-to black. I'm not very adventurous. But 15% off, so a better deal than Macy's. I may have to take the little critter off.

Leave the critter on until you get to know him. ;-)

    LUG cross body bags

I love Lug bags for travel. So light and functional, and surprisingly durable! The quality is amazing. I've had my crossbody for 8 years and it looks great after washing.

I was also going to mention LUG. I was in a specialty travel store recently, and almost bought one. Not sure I like all the quilting though.

sushipup, I will give him a chance.

I love my Ameribags. So many great compartments. Easy to use and very comfortable. Various types, sizes, and materials.

I took my little critter off my Kipling. I also like le Sportsac for travel. Both are nice and light and come in various sizes, colours and styles. I also have a nice light "theft-proof" cross-body bag, but my husband likes to use it for his stuff and camera.

Thank you for all the recommendations. I was familiar with some brands mentioned but some are new to me. I will be looking to get one with the RFID feature.

I popped into Marshall's yesterday and found this Baggalini bag that is an exact match to my Poppy Tieks. I couldn't resist at the $20 clearance price. I generally wear black, white or navy bottoms, so it will not clash with those or my favorite black sandals. A cheery pop for summer that's different from the khaki or black I usually go for.

    Pretty!

Nice summer color. I love a pop of color in the summer. My Ameribag I am currently using is a cross between periwinkle and purple really a lovely color. It is the best purse for the back. My back doctor was always getting on me about my purses damaging my back. These are known for being back friendly. I may need to get one of the little baglet size ones. Enjoy your new bag!

I have a LUG crossbody bag that I like. I believe it's a discontinued model; Wings, maybe? I honestly don't dig the quilting all that much but it's so darn functional.

Great recommendations. I have a Baggalini and love that it's lightweight and that it holds a lot for such a tiny bag, but I don't love the slithery fabric. I'm going to check out some of these others.

What a great match! Congrats on the find.
