Can I use these mis-matched dining chairs?

We moved in late May and I am still unorganized and not nearly as moved in as I thought I would be by now. Lots of stuff that worked in the old house just does not work in this house so I am having a difficult time making any decisions.

The dining table and 4 blue chairs are new. The ivory chair is old and has no seat. I have 2 of the ivory chairs and I would like to get seats and upholstery for them to incorporated them into this dining room.

The ivory chairs would sit on the sides of the buffet and only be used at the ends of the table when we need more seating.

Can this work or are the styles too different? If you think yes then do you have any suggestions for upholstery?

Sorry for bad photo quality. I can't take a good picture to save my life!

Yes! I think it'd look great. I'd try to find a match for the blue and paint the ivory chairs blue, not an easy thing to do (finding a matching blue). Otherwise, I'd paint them something other than the ivory, and I'd paint them in a high-gloss paint.

Yes. Agree a high gloss blue matching the upholstered chairs would bring the set together.

That would be safest. Or you could try one of the colors in the rug.

Good luck! Would love to see the finished product!

I would leave them ivory as well, or at least I wouldn't paint them a matching blue. I think you would lose the integrity of the back of the chairs by trying to match them, especially with the tufting of the blue chairs. I would want to show off the design of the back of the chairs and not downplay it as if it isn't important. That's what gives them their uniqueness against the other chairs.

And yes, you can use them together, the shape and size is very similar.

Thanks All! I was hoping to not have to paint the chairs. I bought them on CLs a few years ago and chalk-painted them and they have been in the attic since. I really don't have time to paint so I will try to find a fabric that looks good with the blue chairs.

I will try to find some fabric today and hopefully get some more opinions.

I don't care for the mix, I think the armchairs will get lost due to size/ scale.

IMO, I think the chairs used at the head and end of table should be larger than those used around the table

I love the white chairs. Would you consider painting the chairs or

using a gel stain to get the white chairs to match the finish on the

blue chairs. Can you order a yard of fabric so that you can match the

    existing fabric on the chair?

I have nine chairs in our dining room. Three different kind of chairs, however

the finish and fabric all match.

I think end chairs like this would be better.

I'm glad Jim said it, because that's what I was thinking. I think the armchairs are a little too delicate in scale in comparison to the upholstered chairs. I agree that the host chairs need to be a little bit larger.

I agree with jim and Ida, but didn't want to be the lone naysayer. I like both, but not together. Their size is nearly identical, and one is transitional, while the other is traditional. If you are only going to use them for overflow, they're fine. If you are displaying them with the others, I think bigger is better.

I like the mix, and the ivory. The smaller size works well for being 'stored' on either side of the the banquet when not in use. Larger chairs would be silly up against the wall. I'd find a fabric that picked up on the blue but also introduces a pop color. I think it makes the eclectic vibe purposeful rather than must needs.

I agree with chijm -- that was my first instinct when seeing your pics.
