Bedroom paint color and question on bed cover for staging

Am thinking of buying new comforter set for master bed for sale of house (and something I like to keep for new home). Right now I have a simple quilt on my bed. Would something with a design be ok or do you think a plain color would be best? It seems for staging many use a plain color. Secondly we will be painting the master bed and bathroom early next week. I picked out a sea foam green color for my bathroom (H has chip so cannot give specific color). Not sure what to paint my large master bedroom. Downstairs I already have greys and blue greys. I wanted to pick something a little different but also kind of neutral. Any suggestions? Floors will be hardwood.

Really? Not even a shade different? That sounds so boring. I painted all rooms downstairs grey blue or grey. I would never paint my house like a rainbow and I also tried to pick very subtle neutral colors. 2 Bedrooms upstairs are light taupe and my master is on a separate stairway all by itself-master suite- so no other rooms even close by.

Boring to you maybe, but to a buyer? We just bought a home this spring, and I definitely wanted master/bath painted the same. I was lucky to find what I wanted (in other ways, too) in this house. You're not living there anymore, what do you care?

Actually I am living here still and will be till we sell (if the house sells). I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, I've never seen or heard of the master bedroom and bath painted the same color but that doesn't mean it isn't popular. I do appreciate your thoughts and will consider the suggestion.

I passed on several houses because I would have to repaint to get to the same colors. There are people that like all rooms a different color, but in my area those houses tend to sell slow.

Paint is a very easy change to make. People that are put off by a seller's paint choices are out of the same mold as buyers that walk away from a property because of furnishing choices.

Buyers gotta look at the big picture.

That said, staging and paint choices definitely help a potential buyer to visualize the possibilities.

I don't care if rooms are painted different colors as long as they are relatively neutral colors. And unless there are vaulted ceilings most rooms are easy to repaint. I just don't want any crazy colors.

Paint it the same color or a slightly lighter version of the same color. The rooms should all flow together with all colors throughout the house tying together in some way.

Since you know my condo, I kept all the colors tan, light green with pops of a dark red. So as you walked through the condo, you weren't jumping from one color to another. It's fine if they're all basically shades of the same color though.

So for example, I used tan in the main rooms of my kitchen/living/dining room/hallways. I used a lighter tan/beige in my office and a slightly darker version in my bedroom. My master bathroom was the same color as the bedroom. The guest bedroom was the soft green color that I had used as accents in the living/dining area and the guest bathroom was the red.

For the quilt, go with something neutral that would appeal to men and women. Don't pick a floral. Maybe find a subtle print that picks up the green plus the gray/blue from downstairs.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and suggestuons. . My entire downstairs is blue grey or grey. I kept everything pretty neutral and talked at length with the gal I know at the paint store. Everything should be coming together inside the house in the next two weeks. I will post pictures for everyone once the house is done. I have to get my entry way staged. There is no furniture in there and we never use the room. I will try to upload a picture tomorrow.

I just saw this, but I would agree with painting the BR the same as the bath or a related shade. If you have blue grey in the adjoining rooms you might be able to go in that direction. Look at the related colors on the paint strips or for suggested color companions on the paint manufacturer's website. When you get the color name, you might search online for companion color suggestions.

I'd go with a plain cream, ivory comforter. If it has a border in a contrasting color that's fine. But think "slightly contemporary/minimalist". No floral, loud prints etc.

Whiter than white isn't a bad color, though the trendy color of the day seems to be "Sherwyn Williams Balanced Beige." (You can get it at Lowes now).

The master bathroom is Benjamin Moore Crystalline AF-485. I do like the color and it will look different in the bedroom because there is much more light. Thank you everyone, especially Sushipup1 for the idea of doing both in the same color. Never would have thought to choose the same color for both rooms.

SaltiDawg if the furniture came with the home and it was not to my taste, then yes I would walk or put in a lower bid.

I like the color that the OP is showing so this house wouldn't be an issue for me. A bright purple bedroom though was enough to make me leave.

Thanks Sandy. Some people can see past paint and furniture others have a hard time seeing how it could look with new paint and furniture. It really does make an impact on how people view the home. Also, many want to move in and not do anything, including having to paint the inside. I have seen pictures on Zillow of the interior of some homes where the furniture looks very dated and my initial reaction is always "Ick."

To answer the original question, I suggest a white bedspread. It goes with everything. It's calm and neutral. It photographs well. I particularly like the matelassé bedspreads. I can wash it weekly. I just purchased one at Frontgate that is beautiful. They are so stingy with fabric now days that most bedspreads and comforters don't quite fit the bed. This one was actually big enough to be a real bedspread. Fresh white towels are a plus, too.

Go neutral and light with your wall colors. As much as you would like to please yourself, you need to think about attracting the largest number of potential purchasers.

Thank you homechef, I actually did buy a white comforter set with bed skirt and pillows that has subtle lines in the comforter. I thought it would look more crisp. I am going to look for a throw to put at the end of the bed with a couple small pillows with color. Anyone have suggestions for a good splash color to use with the paint color?

Speaking of paint color, that color wasn't picked out for my taste, it goes with the master bath and wanted subtle color. I felt this green was somewhat neutral in that it is light and has a nice homey feel to it.

Keep it more to the modern side. No ruffles, or anything like that.

Your green is a good neutral color. It was a good pick.

Thank you Cpartist! The white has no ruffles at all (too girly). What do you mean by modern? lol

modern = Clean lines, not frilly, simple.

Understandably, you are thinking as a homeowner and not a homeowner looking to sell. Even if you plan on being there six months to a year, if you are painting as a way to prepare for sale, then you should stick with neutral colors for all the rooms. Yes, the green is a nice color, but it's not something a lot of people are drawn to and when one is preparing for sale, you want to make sure whatever you do appeals to the majority. The gray you have downstairs is a good option because it is a neutral color, it looks beautiful with all colors. Odds are that gray will work with anything a buyer wants to put into the room, with green their options are immediately very limited and depending on the market in your area, a potential buyer who doesn't like to paint or spend money for new could easily walk.

My husband already bought this color paint for the master bathroom. Grey would not look good with the colors in my bathroom. From what many said here, painting the master the same color as the master bath is a good idea. This was why I went with the green as it seemed somewhat neutral as it is not bright or an odd color. I hate beige an feel it is not very popular. I am hoping the green will be ok for buyers and not turn them off to this house. I realize not everyone will like it but some may not like the grey either. Trying to stay as close to neutral as I can.

Yes, the green is a nice color, but it's not something a lot of people are drawn to and when one is preparing for sale, you want to make sure whatever you do appeals to the majority.

Actually after blue and beige, soft green is considered the third most popular color for walls and is considered a neutral. :)

Yay. So where does grey fit in? I thought greys were really popular now?

    White blanket, not patterned.

Yes, greys are really popular, but this color you have chosen is probably second in popularity now. Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams and Beach Glass by Benjamin Moore are hot.

So hard to keep up with trends isn't it? I'm used to coming in second....lol I think the BM sea glass looks a lot like the green I picked out. Hopefully it will look good for buyers.

Cpartist the bathroom is being painted as we speak and I love it! Will post pic later on.

Very pretty color that will look great with white plain bedding.

I've not heard that cpartist and when I was in real estate, comments I got from a lot of folks was "another green room" which were in a lot of the Colonials. Maybe it's a regional thing I don't know, but I posted from my experience.

I dislike green, but in my opinion this counts as greenish bluish greyish shade. As others have said, Seasalt, Rainwashed, Quietude, Beach Glass, Palladian Blue, etc are in right now.

My husband and I both feel it is a bit darker than we feel the color of the bedroom should be so I am going to the paint store tomorrow to pick out a very light green/grey color that will be very neutral but compliment the bathroom color so it does not look much different.I will check out the colors no osoccermom listed and see if they work with this. Thank you for all the suggestions.

I had read it on one of the sites 2 days ago. Don't recall which one though.

    Were the greens more green?

Ooohh I really like Healing Aloe! I will see if it compliments the bathroom color. Cant imagine why not.

I bought the healing aloe. It is very very close to my bathroom paint just slightly lighter. I think it will look great. Thank you for the suggestion! I will post pictures once the bedroom is complete and the hardwoods are redone.

We're getting ready to sell our house, too. Part of the realtor's service is getting a stager to stage the house. She took down all personal photos and some framed wall art, knick knacks, move some furniture around, and move some furniture to the garage. Box up all the winter clothes and other clothes you don't use often, to make the closet look bigger. She mentioned using plain white towels in the bathroom, white beddings because white photographs well. Also white flowers in a small or medium vase on the nightstand. I have a white matelasse bedspread with tiny blue and green flowers, and she didn't mention changing it out to a plain white one.

One thing that I never head of before is to remove the bath rugs, kitchen rugs and trash can (people don't want to see other people's trash) during showing or open house. We've sold 2 homes in the past and we'd just empty the trash can before a showing.
