I need help with patterned carpet on my stairs & mixing up patterns!

I'm finally getting new floors!! Yay! I've picked out a hardwood & for several reasons I've decided to keep carpet on the stairs. I love the patterned carpet on stairs look but I need some help with the other patterns in the room. I can't screw this up. My 2 favorite carpet samples I brought home are the swirly & the moroccan. The big carpet samples are not the color I would pick. So I mostly need help on pattern shape but you can give color input as well if you like. I will most likely go with a light color. Ceramic tile will be the wood you see. Other nearby room patterns I have are a striped wall, a small amount of French script & my leopard rug which I love. I have an open floor plan so the stairs are visible from most rooms downstairs. I love the mixed pattern look I just need help making sure I get this right! My biggest concern is what looks best with the leopard.

I like the lighter color the best.of the two. The black with the dark floors might be a bit much.

By the way, love your decor.

I like the swirly pattern in the lighter colors on the board to the right.

As by itself, no context, I prefer the Moroccan pattern

In your house though I see a lot of French influence...it seems to me the swirly pattern (in different lighter color as you suggested) will make more sense within the big scheme of things. It seems it juxtaposes better with both the leopard rug, and the striped wall. While picking the lines of upholstery pattern in the chairs, and even the Chat Noir in the poster..))

The light gray sample, while pretty, won't marry well with the beige of the leopard rug and dining room. I agree that the swirly pattern with a light beige background would be the best choice.

On my monitor, the gray looks too bluish for the background of the leopard. Also, I like the swirly pattern. It goes better with your rounder leopard than a purely geometric pattern.

    Very pretty rooms!

I'm going with the swirly. If you look at the first picture I'm probably going with the right side 2nd from the top. I loved the Moroccan print but I see now it wasn't right.

Definitely the scroll pattern over the Moroccan.

Another vote for the scroll pattern.

I like the swirls but definitely in one of the lighter colours.

Can you place the swirly samples on top of the leopard carpet and post a picture please?

ps...love your home. When I saw the Austin Chopped fireplace (we have one too), I thought, "I bet she's in Texas". And I was right :)

I like the patterns best in the sample above. But do you have a similar photo with the other?

I think the second one in the top row matches very well!!

Sorry it was the 4th one!!!!!

I'm having fun in PS with all your samples/pictures but what a conundrum :o

Do you like blue? On my screen I see blue in that beautiful leopard rug and of course the dusty French blue goes great with the wood you chose. Do you have blue elsewhere in the house? Looking at the sample laying on the rug, it's the bottom row, third from the left. Personally, I stay away from colors that tend to look dingy or dull so I would want to go bright or darker...darker stair cases are usually more dramatic (around here). I see a lot of these stair runners or carpeted stairs. My husband cuts (has them bound) and installs countless stair runners. Yesterday's job was supposed to a runner but the customer changed her mind and did a full coverage of her staircase. This is what he installed 130 yds of so it wasn't just the stairs (not the actual house).

Good luck. Can't wait to see which color you choose.

Of the 4 you have marked on the swirly sample standing on the staircase, I like the 2nd row, 1st on the left

Thanks for all the help! It's really appreciated. I have several weeks until I need a final decision on the color for the scroll/swirl.

Kippy, I didn't think to take a photo with the other carpet samples on the rug. I'm not sure why. It's been returned.

Monicakm, I don't have any blue now but I've purposely kept colors pretty neutral because I love changing up my accent colors pretty often. So it's a future possibility.
