I also really like it the way it is and I also like the idea of painting it the color of the house....might be lower maintenance to do a stain and seal it if that matters...one more thought, it looks like your front door maybe a different color unless thats just the way the light is hitting it, anyway if it is a different color, that might look nice doing the pergola to match...another suggestion, I just put in a pergola on a rental property and I put a metal roof on it which I love for 3 reasons, shade, protection from rain and I love the sound of rain on a metal/tin roof. Very easy and affordable to install too!
