San Diego Mission Beach Studio 275 sf Small Space Remodel

How does a homeowner turn a hopelessly small space into a dream weekend getaway hideout? They share their dream with Danielle Perkins. The owners of this miniature condo are only a few short steps from beautiful and historic Mission Beach. The only problem is that their 275 sq. ft. living space rather resembled a glorified beach closet. They desperately needed more space in their place! Never daunted by existing floorplans, Danielle assessed the individual needs of this couple and got to work. She first eliminated the greatest room minimizer, aka: the kitchen wall. Danielle created one grand living area where two ill-conceived mini-rooms once dwelled. She then installed vinyl wood plank flooring throughout, which not only adds to the style of the place, but lends the utmost durability against sand and water. The warm-colored gray cabinets pick up a glint of calming gray in the hex teal backsplash. Danielle installed apartment-sized white appliances to fit the space and still meet the convenience needs of the owners. Light and bright colors are used throughout the condo to tie it all together and give the layout consistency. In order to give each partner an opportunity for “me time,” Danielle designated “his and hers” areas. He has a comfortable spot on the sofa from which to watch his 42” TV with his feet up. Of course, he can wear his sound-canceling headset so that he does not disturb his peaceful partner, as she curls up to read a book, watch her own personal mounted TV or simply relax lounging on her custom window seat. When no one is perched upon it, this innovative bench opens to reveal a much treasured large storage area and also boasts an extra-large pull-out drawer for even more storage. Every inch of space in this home is designed for this couple’s beach living needs or for storage. Even the bathroom is equipped with enough storage area for everything from sunscreen to nail polish.
