Old family recipe - safe if I process?

last modified: 9 years ago

I have a family recipe from my great Aunt that we all love. Problem with the recipe is she processes the pickles in the oven. The ingredients are:

6 cups sugar

4 cups water

4 cups vinegar

2 slices of jalapeno

2-3 cloves garlic

8 tbsp salt

cukes sliced like dollar rounds

Her recipe says to process for 15 minutes in a 300 degree oven.... BIG NO! If I process the quarts in a water bath for 20 minutes would this recipe fit the new canning guidelines? The ingredients all seem to fit the correct ratio but I'm not sure if just any recipe can be thrown in a water bath for 20 minutes and considered safe.

I tried looking on the web for a similar recipe with no such luck.
Please help as I love the flavor of these pickles but want to make/eat them knowing I'm being safe!!!
