What else is supporting the porch at that point?

I would remove the walkway barrier and supports. It will open it up and add a fresh landscape in front of Windows. I would also paint out the trim on Windows to a more contemporary color like black.

What do you mean the supports are the attic? Do you mean they are in the attic, like a cantilever?

Unless and except where you intend to enlarge the "porch" -- such as at the front door -- and add new posts to support the new porch, you should leave the posts and the brick pillars that support them -- just remove the walls between the posts -- then repurpose the used brick either to build all of your pillars supporting the roof taller (bricking around each of the round metal posts) or to build your new patio in your side yard (second pic) beginning between two of the short pillars.

If the walls merge into the posts, you may need a masonry saw blade to cut in half those brick that do. In such cases, it might be that you will need to knock out the entire brick merged into the wall, cut the brick in half and then add a half brick back.
