What do I feed a bluebird?

My husband just came home, got out of his car and this bluebird walked/jumped over to him. He "called" the bluebird and he followed him. He then flew to the top of our roof and I called "here bluebird, bluebird" (yeah I know crazy, kinda like you call a cat).

He came over to me. I ran in and got some old baby bird food --Avian Weaning Diet--from about six years ago when there was a baby bluebird nest that the mom was killed--softened it and put it in a dish and he came over and ate some.

Could this one of the babies?? I don't know how long they live but we took the babies over to a lady that cared for baby birds but that was about 6 years ago.

Is it ok to feed him this? I don't know what to feed him that is easy to get. General Petsmart-type bird food?

He really seems like someone has been feeding him--way too tame for a bird--and really--he did come when I called him!!

Thanks!

That's so cool! Could you take a photo? Just press the photo button below the comments section & insert it. I'm guessing it could be a juvenile since it's feeding itself. If it had recently fledged, the parents would still be feeding him/her. The best thing to feed bluebirds are live mealworms, which you can get at the local pet store. If you find that this is something you want to offer on a regular basis, buying them online is much cheaper. You could try dried mealworms, which are also offered at local pet stores in the wild bird or reptile section. Good luck!

How cute! I'm pretty sure that's a juvenile blue jay. I know they eat nuts, fruits, seeds, insects, but I'm not sure what their favorites are. So adorable!!
