Need help picking white for old 1901 small cottage farmhouse

Hi--- After much thought we have decided to paint our very small house
all white (body, trim, porch). It is currently a dingy off white color
(picture makes it look more white) with gray trim. I am seeking advice
for a specific white paint color/brand that would look good. We are
thinking painting interior of windows & door black would be nice. It
would emulate a "modern farmhouse" look I like. Maybe also under porch
ceiling pale blue. I have also seen trim painted black, but that might
be too heavy, not sure. Advice?

I would not use all white on white on white on that house... It would be so out of character for the era. Maybe "white" for the body, but one shade up on the trim.

My advice would be to look for whites/off whites in the historic color pallets. BM, SW, etc.. all have them.

Your current paint might look dingy because it is dingy and has nothing to do with the color.

Sweet lil house! I dont perceive white painted houses that I see around here as "modern". just kind of blah in their own colorless way. I see them more as hold-outs from the mid- 1900s when lots of old houses were painted white as a reaction against the colorful palettes of the earlier eras - it supposedly looked "clean," and maybe it does for a short time after its painted but soon becomes as dingy and blah as any other color.n if not more so - any little peeling or dirt will show.

I agree thathistoric color palettes - and google- are good starting places, not that you have to slavishly follow anything but just to know what the esthetic was and still could be. Many of the modern neutrals would not be terribly out of place on a historic house.

Thank you to all that commented. I am in the NW where it is gray alot. I love white dove on my cabinets. Not sure if it will read white enough outside, but I will sample it. I attached photos of what I mean by a "modern farmhouse look" that is all bright white some with black window interior & door. Many are new construction, but as the combination also looks good on the cape cod, it might work for my old house

Well, OK - you know what you want! So, next step is just to try some whites. Ive been using Zinsser Exterior Permawhite in satin for my white trim - straight out of the can - and have had good results with it. In fact it typically lasts better and long onger than the fancy schmancy Sherwin Williams Seafoam Green that I have on the other parts of the house. Its a nice true slightly warm white - not an identical match to the white aluminum storm windows but close enough to read the same. (It is thin and goes on thin, and I often need multiple coats - up to 4 or 5 - but the end result is a nice hard smooth surface. No I dont work for Zinsser LOL.)

What color is the roof? Some people ignore the roof thinking it has no bearing on what their wall and trim colors should be, but thats a mistake I think... unless you're planning to replace the roof in the foreseable future I also give some thought to the neighbor's colors, not that anything has to be matchy or harmonize.... just to avoid flagrant clash which would have the effect of possibly making both houses less appealing. It happens sometimes!

If going with a white body your trim should really be Benjamin Moore Essex green for a period look. Your window sash also. Caution though. If you plan to have white body with white trim and black window sash, you need to understand what gets painted and what does not on the window. Here is some info on painting windows.

Benjamin Moore Cloud White would be a lovely soft white that seems pretty neutral in terms of undertone. If you want a very bright white, BM Decorator's White would fit the bill. I also think BM Simply White is very beautiful. I love the idea of the black trim. I would do white body, black trim, and then stained wood for the porch ceiling, if possible.
