RUG on a heated bathroom floor???

I want a rug on our heated bathroom floor. My engineer husband thinks the whole purpose of the heated floor is not to have a rug and afraid to put anything on top. Can a rug be put on top of a heated floor? I want soft cushion feel under my souls.

Here is what I found on the internet (compliments of Colony Rug Company):

Loose lay rugs should not present any problems with radiant heating systems, especially rugs of woven construction. The cushion should NOT contain rubber since rubber exposed to long periods of a warmed floor may produce a slight odor that some homeowners could find objectionable.

Adhesives used to secure flooring to radiant heated concrete subfloors are designed to withstand the warm temperatures. As there are certain wood flooring products that cannot be installed onto the radiant heated floor, placing a loose lay rug over those would not be a concern.

Thoughts on this?

Do people just step on the heated floor and the water eventually dries up after a shower quickly?

I’ve only ever used mats, so no idea if people all of a sudden stop using mats when they get radiant flooring.

I have used cables in several homes, under tile, without any problems whatsoever. It is extremely important that the system gets installed per manufacturer's specification and that before any tile is installed that the system is tested for any potential failure. Most systems sell a testing kit. In the past, when my tile installed was not familiar with the product, I had a manufacturer's representative at the site during installation to answer any questions and make sure my installer was strictly adhering to the guidelines.

Most systems incorporate a "heat break" which is a material that will ensure the heat goes "up" into your bathroom rather than "down" into the space below. I've had clients move from the idea of heated floors to cork glue down tiles in the bathroom. So long as there is an existing heat source in the bathroom the cork tiles will do what the heating system would do: keep the bathroom warm and keep the chill from your feet/legs. Cork glue down tiles are water proof and recommended for bathrooms. Just a thought.

We have a rug in the center of the bathroom. It is an indoor/outdoor rug. It does not really come in contact with any water. It is there to add some color in a rather big, poorly designed room with no storage. Couple that with an ugly whirlpool tub and a bright white tile floor. It can be taken outside and hosed off. I am happy wth it.

We have heated floors throughout our house. We still use bath mats in our bathrooms. The only downside is that the mats never feel as warm as the floors.
