Dire need for curb appeal advice (seriously, it's bad).

We need help.... So.... We've had the house a few years, but have focused mostly on needed interior updates. This year, between a DIY kitchen update, a new furnace and water heater, and a few other unexpected things, the time and money for the front were not a priority. It was pretty bad when we bought the place, but the neglect from us this year has made it far far worse.

We are planning to move in the next couple of years and are in dire need of some ideas and feedback on giving this place some curb appeal.

We have some ideas but are at a loss of where to start or if they're even good ideas. We pretty much know we need to paint the garage door and siding, put in new outside light, remove awnings (should we put something back over the door?) replace the railing, fix the retaining wall (we plan to use same stone and install it properly), and re landscape some areas (removing the remaining yews and cleaning up the other garden space). We at this point just don't know what to do as far as colors, styles, etc. It's just overwhelming.

Due to budget, we will be doing most things ourselves (except for siding painting).

It's bad. I know it's bad. Fellow Houzzers, please help!

(I will post a couple additional pictures in the comments. Prepare to shield your eyes from out dated horror.)
