There's nothing wrong with the faucet. ORB is a living finish. The more used parts always show brighter bronze and the lesser used show the brown age.

No refinishing. And no to buying new. It will wear the exact same way. And you would need to open up the wall to change it out.

I agree with Sophie but if you insist on haveing a new look,all the visiable parts are easy to replace without opening wall or changing facuet.

"Venetian" and "Oil Rubbed" are old art
terms that describe the addition of polished highlights to aged (oxidized)
statuary bronze that becomes a rich red brown color because of it's 90% copper
content. Brass normally contains about 70% copper.

Since copper is expensive and it
takes a long time for bronze to darken naturally, modern manufacturers take
some short cuts in the factory:

- The cheapest simulated aged bronze
finish is paint.

- Next is the chemically accelerated
oxidation of brass plating.

- Next is the chemically accelerated
oxidation of solid brass.

- Next is the chemically accelerated
oxidation of copper plating on solid brass (probably the best compromise of
cost and quality).

- Top of the line is the chemically
accelerated oxidation of high copper content cast bronze.

It
is very difficult to get reliable information from manufacturers about how they
achieve an ORB or Venetian Bronze finish so be careful and be prepared for a
finish that not only wears unpredictably but may be difficult or impossible to touch up or
refinish.

That seems to be the case with the OP's bath faucet. Since it's probably chemically oxidized brass it's a practical impossibility to repair the finish so the finish would need to be stripped and re-oxidized if its solid brass or painted if it is not. I don't know who would do that so if it is solid brass, I recommend having it stripped and nickel plated. IMO there is no more elegant or appropriate finish for a bathroom fixture whether it is old or new.

You could also try to find a metal art conservator. They restore patinas on bronze sculptures.
