So why can’t the walls be changed, just because the place is in the country does not mean you can’t have contemporary . So paint the yucky panelling if you can’t remove it paint the trim change the knobs to stainless

If you can't paint the paneling, I would paint all of the trim and door white and light switch covers. Change the door handle and your cabinet/drawer hardware to black and then bring in some black accessories - it will move it from being cute/country to a more contemporary country. You could add a blackboard where the pumpkin sign is - handy and fun.

I agree with above comment - more photos of the entire kitchen. Otherwise, if everything is staying and you're only changing what you're asking about, maybe paint that laundry room door a colour similar to the trim around it? Hard to say without more info. I would change the knobs to metal but dark, like oil-rubbed bronze.

If most of my decorating is done, I think of small things like light plate -- but only if it would 'show' on an already empty area....
