October is the start of the cool-season Aloe show. Aloe deltoideodonta is first this year.

Seven of the Agaves are going up all at once (one did not fit in the photo). The hummingbirds and bees are going to go crazy.

Christina - Nice work on the Ihlenfeldtia vanzylii! I've been wanting mine to flower since last year. Has it flowered for your many times before? Quite enjoy the conos too.

Hoovb - Your Agave are going to be a very impressive show. Awesome.

Sedum spurrium - Thanks Rina. =)

    Lithops lesliei albinica C36A

Crassula capitella subs Thyrsiflora - Still sending up more and more blooms. It STINKS. Even outside in the open air.

    Kevin

Glad it's growing well. That capitella may stink, but looks very nice :)

Kevin - thanks! I bought it around this time last year but no signs of blooming then, so this year is a first for me!

Some more pics of my cono:

All full bloom last week... So nice.

Yesterday. The flowers never stay for long :(

But it's cute: the flowers have been blooming in a nice little row

I know I already posted this one in another thread... but I couldn't resist posting it again:

Haworthia decipiens minor MBB6587 Die Bordjie Steytlenville

Faucaria felina - still going strong!

I usually get more blooms in October, but it's been pretty cold. I haven't watered these guys so the petals are a little wrinkly. Here are a few:

First time bloom Schick 'Lemon Pie'. This is a pup with a hard life so I'm happy to see this.

One of my favorites, Schick 'Don Juan'. Fantastic colors.

That is one goood looking 'Don Juan' :)

    Graptoveria 'Moonglow' is blooming :D

This Glottiphyllum is one of my favorite plants and I just love when it finally blooms for me every fall:). I like to let this little guy dry out then give him a big drink of water. The leaves get so plump like grapes.

Where did you get your Glottiphyllum nelii? It looks great! I'm only able to get Glottiphyllum depressum locally, which tends to grow a bit large and crazy for my likes.

I got him at a local nursery a couple years ago. He's been a good plant to own grows pretty slow for me, but I don't mind. Every once in awhile a snail or slug takes a bite or I'm a little rough and he will get a fingernail mark;).

String of pearls - difficult to get a good photo, at least for me. There are 7 blooms opened, and I counted 41 buds...

Rina - I had no idea the blooms looked like that. Neat!

    Fenestraria rhopalophylla

Tentatively identified as Mammillaria polythele cv Nuda (aka Nudum):

These showed up a couple weeks ago, and this was as far as I ever saw them open! Either they opened very stealthily (overnight or while I was away for a weekend), or they never fully opened (not warm enough?). There are some new buds now, so maybe I'll catch them this time!

Two angles of my Faucaria tigrina. It was very small last year with just two leaves:

I have a couple blooming, nothing as impressive as others here, but similar to Rina's above. It's two plants in a hanging pot, but I'm puzzled as to why the flowers look practically identical even tho' the plants are not alike.

The blue-green plant growing out of the top.

Below is the flower for the above plant:

Below is the flower for what I call the banana plant.

    Socks

both those plants are Senecios, so they would be expected to have similar flowers. Evolutionarily, it is easier for leaves to change shape than flowers, so flower structure is useful in identifying plants.

    rina_Ontario,Canada 5a thanked breton2
  • 9 years ago

The flowers should look the same! Looks that you have both Senecio radicans and Senecio serpens, which are of the same genus. =)

    rina_Ontario,Canada 5a thanked ewwmayo
  • 9 years ago

OK, then! I thought I had the stems mixed up and was confused about the flowers. Even got a step stool to climb up to make sure of what I was seeing. Thanks, Breton and ewwmayo. Appreciate the ID too.

I'm so excited and once more I should mention scientific names are not my thing ;) my feathery lady cacti(named by my 5yr old and I ;)) has around 7 blooms even 2 on one of what I think is a pup. Either way we are super excited she started blooming back during our first tropical storm, then again during the hurricane. I thought due to lack of sunshine she might not continue blooming, but she's not done yet!!

Sorry for lack of quality shot I caught her as they were closing for the afternoon, but I'll try to share better pics later.

I love these blooms-per-month threads. Great to see all your blooms, such variety! I did not have many blooms this year, as my plants suffered from the transplanting into gritty mix. Nothing wrong with the mix, but I greatly overdid the carefulness with water in the beginning, like you mentioned recently in another thread, Rina. No rot, which had claimed many of my plants last year, but no roots and growth either. I think I did much better later, and my Titanopsis calcarea seems to think so too:

A kind of Mammillaria and a Parodia (?) joined it in the sun today. Can anyone identify further?

Just for fun, my two pots with Lithops, because I have so much fun with them ;-). No blooms this year, I think.

Thanks Kevin! Yea, They're still outside, gotta plan to start giving most away and bring them in soon. Have you moved yours in yet?

Bernard - Everything is back in for good. We're still having some unseasonably warm days but those warm weather fronts come with a lot clouds and little sun. Doesn't feel like it's worth shuttling pots in and out anymore. I'm going to miss having so many plants out on the roof!
