Just throwing this out, adding vertical molding like this around your room may make adding/arranging art a little easier.

If you're going to go with the glass, I would at least stick with your more conservative color scheme by not adding bright new colors to the mix. They are too flashy to blend in.

The glass is beautiful. Any idea what search term(s) I'd use to find something like these?

I do feel they project too far from the wall and the metal attachment mechanism is unattractive.

I'm thinking that the mock up shows WAY too many pieces and with the bright colors and shiny finish, they will overwhelm that wall and your space. Because of the asymmetric way they can be hung, I think you can "fill" the decorative space without actually filling the wall with pieces.

I'm with Olychick. Too much. Less is more. Looks too crowded.

I have considered similar glass art for my house but wasn't brave enough to take the leap. I say go for it

I love them, I also love bright colors. I have a similar rug, but in brighter colors, in my bedroom. I'm a huge fan of glass pieces, will be going to the Chihuly exhibit in Toronto in a week. I'm hoping to buy a small piece to bring home. If you love it, do it, it's your home.

Everyone has given me a lot to think about. I'm glad to see a few opinions who like my idea just as is, because I have to admit, I'm really liking the idea of the colors and as I have them arranged, well adding one actually to make it an odd number.

I do not want to overwhelm the room though, that is a good point. The rug is colorful, but now that I look at it, yes, more muted than the plates, and also my inspiration pics have less going on in general than in my room. I do like the idea of all white, or maybe the blue and white. But then I look at the pictures again, and I love the vividness of the orange and the yellow, so I'm back to square one. I will get some colored paper or maybe colored pencils, or something, and see how it looks if I do the mock-ups in color.

As far as using fewer, if you look at my posting history, I have a history of art too small for the space, and specifically in this space over the sofa. So I want to avoid that, again. I also have looked at a lot of google images of these types of installations, and I like it best when some overlap and some don't. I will play around the arrangement and see how I feel about fewer.

Aprilneverends - I agree, these would look .great in the dining area. Those painting fit just right over there, I can't bear to move them. Those are one of the few artwork items I got right the first time! If I play around with the layout and like fewer. then I could splurge for the flower style glass, or vendor that offer differents colors, but I think I might like the simplicity and asymmetry of these even more.

chijim - I love moldings, but this room only has this wall and the bit in the dining area, the rest is all windows and doors, so I think adding any vertical molding would look odd. It would definitely help visually close up and define the space and solve the issue with art looking to small over the sofa.

I love art glass I have a few pieces. I think too many over the couch especially the ones going off to the left it makes it appear to be heavy to that side and off balance. I would do it centered I personally like colors especially the blues and the yellowish color and the white and the orange. But blues and whites together could be nice. I would try it with a few. You can always change it.

What about doing a diy project with different size IKEA Ribba frames and colored tissue paper.

I know what else is bugging me..it's too linear..the way you templated it. You already have very strong linearity(? is there a word like that? lol) in your room, due to the chair rail, crown moldings, etc..you want to break it up a bit..

If you do go with an arrangement behind your sofa..I would begin by putting up just a few pieces, as several people suggested already..maybe centered but not necessarily..then you have this amazing unevenness and fluidity, without repeating the lines too much. And then you'll see whether it's enough or you crave more. Such approach is also cool because it leaves you more place to wait and dream:) I do like waiting and dreaming, so maybe that's something that only I find attractive..:)

Good observation by aprilneverends, it does look too linear, maybe try more random looking variation in the heights.

Have you seen the ones done with plastic melted plates? I couldn't believe it was plastic ! I have done the garden glass plate flowers which these remind me of . They can be used as wall art also for cheap lol.

Came in looking for another post and I REALLY do not belong in/on a decorating board because I am way too far out there for most. But you had my immediate attention on Art Glass wall decor and then Murano glass. These are gorgeous pieces and I would redo my whole house design to get them if I could afford it.

I agree raise your template up to center it better and maybe add in the 7th piece some where. Had no idea your lamp shades were glass. They are Gorgeous. I will go read more of your other post. I do think looking at the sides as you enter is a lovely view. I do not understand the 2 inch deep hanger. I think it is fine as long as some of it would be hidden by the overlap of other pieces. Your colors are amazing and just change out your rug if you do not think it blends well enough with the plate flowers. the other subtle colors are also gorgeous . I am with you and would keep with the bright primary colors. They are what you love and it is you you need to please here.

I am an anything goes in my house. I also live alone now. :'( Although hubby loved my art work. I have a 40 inch lizard climbing up my wall in the dinning room and my maid Thelma (Mannequin) not being very helpful with out her arms. Picture off center intentionally for my face book cover photo. Thellma moves left two feet most of the time.

I adore glass and have a pretty wild bright colored mosaic mural in my master bathroom 5 foot long and I have no idea how high. Another wall mural 11 foot long and at least 7 foot high maybe higher. I have not finished the top yet. Working on it. Hubby got very ill so everything came to a screeching halt.

Off to read your other post. OH and not trying to be smart assed here. I just think a person should do what they love.

I'm also an anything goes in my house..I mean anything I like..so I rarely ask anybody for advice, knowing myself lol. I asked once-on a different forum, not a decorating one, just a group of dear friends, about my (then) new curtains..ok and got lots of advice, but by the end of it I was sorry I asked..:)

Then at some point I hosted a party, and the friends came and said that curtains are wonderful, and they couldn't get the feel of it by looking at my photos.

It's bound to happen sometimes, when you live in space-and others see it through the monitor. It also might be that you receive great advice too. At the very least, you're talking about nice things with nice people-a severely underrated luxury..

I do have big respect and admiration for everybody sharing here and asking and posting pictures of ongoing unfinished projects, like remodeling etc(would be horror for superstitious me! I don't know how you do that guys) It takes a lot of guts actually and patience too-to ask something.

So I'm sure aimeekm will handle us just fine..she's gutsy enough to take what she wants to take from the discussion, and leave out what she doesn't.

(I'm less of a glass type of person but since I had to buy so many lights recently for my own general remodel, vintage was the best I could afford..and I got a bit..oh whom am I kidding..got totally nuts about Murano lights, and flowers, and all that jazz. Was very hard to try and keep some balance...but it will be still too many flowers I'm afraid. Because I like florals in general too. And critters.

A friend of mine has a collection of geckos- I never pass an opportunity to bring her one if I stumble upon it when travelling and such. They are truly adorable, climbing on that wall of hers)

And yes, sometimes it makes a total sense to tweak a room a bit so it dances to the music of the art, not the other way around..

I never had to do it yet, since while I moved a lot, the only things that stayed with me faithfully over the years were books and art, and that was my foundation from the very beginning, so to say.

Since my husband died Aug 19th I have totally done my house over except the dinning room. I entertained him for over a week putting it together and building the small but tall china cabinet from bi-fold doors and painting it my wild wild Iris color dying curtain panels that used to be my grandmothers table cloth and painting the dinning room rug more wild iris and finally painting kitchen and dinning room.

The only room untouched is the tiny guest bathroom and I suppose I could move the toilet paper holder to the other side but really why bother? I also painted my studio room and switched studio rooms for guest room so now I have a lovely guest room and part of my studio is in the living room. Sounds weird but when not covered in glass bits and a project it just looks like a desk. And the light in the living room with two 8 foot windows and a half light door is wonderful even on dark gray days.

I am still tweaking things as I was gifted a weeks vacation on the coast with two other widow friends and we had a wonderful time. Then back home to finish preparing for winter. Calking seems on the house siding and painting that pulling in garden hoses and all garden stuff. Winterizing lawnmower and cutting up three huge tree branches a friend took down for me because he did not want me on a ladder with chain saw cutting them down up over my head. I agree that would be foolish. Once on the ground I am fine with the chain saw.

Like you Aprilneverends I would not ask advice because I am too far out there in my likes and also too tight with budget which especially now it is non existing. Dining room was done for under $100.00. Not counting Thelma. She is not done yet. Had to stop on her to have cataract surgery and then other projects came up.

I just wanted to add to almeekm. If the back hangers on the plate flowers are too much in your face maybe painting them to the wall color would help to take your eye away from that.

aimee, I just wanted to add that I love, love your art glass and the colors. I also find your arrangement very pleasing to the eye. The fact that there is an even number of objects is offset by the different sizes.

Thanks everyone for the continued feedback. I have played around the last 2 days with colored paper & crayons, using fewer, more, even, odd, higher, lower, grouping over the sofa, extending past the sofa etc.

I know I have ignored just about everyone's advice. Sorry about that. But it has really made me think about the arrangement, and made me try out different options. So it has not fallen on deaf ears!

Another reason why I am just going for it, despite everything, is this vendor is just so affordable. If I decide I want fewer, I won't feel bad storing some away. (Especially considering this idea first occurred to me while looking at Murano glass works that were over $10K)

Thelma's arms are still under my work bench. I have a vision for them but I also kind of love her arm-less. Maybe to arm lamps with her arms some where else in the house. LOL

The white is a beautiful piece I would add it in to replace one of the double colors . Especially beautiful next to the blues. I just saw some on a Google search , look for the blue and white together . It would add another flavor .I would replace the small yellow and small orange with white and see how it goes .

Have you looked at fusion glass too? I have a little collection of it as well as the Murano. I really hope they survived the flood and are safe in the pods !

Ugh ravencajun ... Now you've made me consider the white again! I do agree, it is stunning, and I've seriously considered doing all white. I tried the blue and white, and I don't think this vendor has enough variation in the blue.. If you look at your example, the blues are diverse, and that gives that piece its life. As much as I'm tempted by the white, I am more drawn to the colors.... I think, lol! (I have a fusion glass fruit bowl in my kitchen I got off Etsy, and I love)

Here's the finished product!

So the project took longer than expected. Multiple pieces arrived broken, and then several replacement pieces arrived broken. So it definitely took patience. As well explaining to visitors the colored construction paper on my walls for months!

I am really happy the way it turned out. One of my fears, voiced by many in this thread is that it would be "too much" for the relatively small room. While, some people might walk in and think so, to me it feels "just right" All of the glass colors are someplace else in the room, furniture, rug etc., so I think it helps pull everything together.

Another fear was the amount of projection off the wall, and if it would look strange. This was especially a concern because the side view is visible as soon as you walk into my front door. When I first had them mounted, they did project a little further then I would have liked. So I had the mounting brackets cut down to the minimum depth needed to hold the glass. I'm pleased with the final depth of these, they don't feel like they are crowding the room, or looling over my head.
