Anyone used "United Window and Door" windows?

I need to replace 14 double hung windows with new construction units due to extensive frame rot in the existing windows. The house was built in 2001 and has contractor grade windows manufactured by MW. The MW windows had quality and manufacturing issues that resulted in frame rot. There was a class action suit against them but the original owner didn't know about the problem and missed the deadline. Regardless, the settlement amount was prorated and only covered up to 10 years from the date of manufacture.

The frame rot is extensive enough that pocket replacement aren't a viable option. We knew about this problem before we closed on the house and adjusted our offer accordingly.

This is a second home for us located in Williamsburg VA and we're working with a local contractor who's been trying to find a decent quality new construction window without breaking the bank. He comes well recommended and will be installing the windows. He's gotten quotes from a Marvin dealer and the was ridiculous (Integrity Wood-Ultrex $10,953 and Integrity all Untrex $9,897). He got a quote from Lowes for "United Window and Door" Series 5500 windows. Their warranty looks good (lifetime limited, non-prorated transferrable). And the price looks very good $2,905 after a 15% discount.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks -- Steve
