We are finishing our basement. We've installed vinyl flooring in most of it (the planks that look like wood). However, we want to carpet the 20x20 media room/movie theater room. There is no flooding issue at all in this basement. We painted the walls BM Jute and the ceiling is BM Barista (needs to be dark for the projection TV) -- see color swatches below. There is a platform along the back wall and we are planning a row of dark brown leather theater seating on that. Closer to the TV, we are considering either a small tan sectional or some oversized circular swivels. Colorful pillows. Either way we may also put out some beanbags. My husband really likes the idea of a shag carpet bc it's so cozy and kind of fun and makes it appealing to lounge on the floor (A lot of kids will be using this room). Today I saw a dark red shag carpet that looked like it could be pretty awesome. Do you think this is mistake? One, because it's hard to clean. Do you think a regular vacuum can do it? Two, I hesitate because it's pretty dramatic. Too dramatic? To me, the dark red translates into "movie theater" -- will other people understand that reference or just think I picked a red carpet? There will be some movie posters on the walls and a 140" screen. The other option would probably be to go with shag but in tan -- or a speckled frieze or twist style that had various shade of brown and tan and beige. Thoughts? Thanks!
