bigger and I like it but also wonder if there is a color you can pull from adjoining rooms or the front of the home? beautiful marble and entry!! what about finding a 6x9?

I also think bigger would be better in this case. Even with the 5 X 8 there will be plenty opportunity for the marble to shine. I agree with Jennifer Havin in selecting a rug with colors that reflect those from adjoining spaces, as it provides a sense of continuity.

If your entire home is black, white and grey it's not so much of an issue. However, if that is the case you'll really want to be thoughtful about texture. A sea grass or sisal would address texture as well as add some warmth. In addition, they are quite durable and water resistant.

The larger size and a different rug. But you will have the most success/variety in 4 x 6 which would be just fine in the entry. You may also consider the stair at the same time, does it have a runner, do you WANT a runner.......?? : )

When design is admittedly "sooooo out of your comfort zone" it is very helpful and FINANCIALLY much more expedient and wise, not to waste money on mistakes you will regret. I would look for interior design help in your local area to consider ALL your spaces, for function, comfort and style. You can search Pros in your area, right here on Houzz, and view their portfolios as well : )

Throwing out questions for help here is one method, but you will get more opinions than you really require, often end confused...... particularly if the entire concept of interior design is out of your "zone". Get help. People get help with their finances for the same reason, yes? ?

Larger is better and I agree that rug is all wrong for the flooring too . A black and white one would be better
