Should I get this rug for our living room?

last modified: 9 years ago

The price can hardly be beat, but I'd like to make sure that it's a good match for our space before placing the order. It's a little dark out right now, but the since kids aren't awake yet, I'll try to shoot some pictures now.

Rugs USA Link to rug While I love my "Grannie-Annie" quilt, I have other spots for it, too, so it doesn't have to stay.

The couches are a sea foam/silvery sage color.

Why yes, that is unfinished drywall back there. At least we can match the paint to the rug rather than having to match the rug to the paint. ;-)

Here is the picture window view this morning:

What do you think, is it a winner, or should I keep looking? Do you see any hints of green in there; there's no color description.

I really cannot tell from the photos----- but I see on the link from esale that they have a mat size one which is $7 so I think you should order that and at least get a better view of the colors. Your room is beautiful.

Thank you for the kind words, Sheila! The undonness of this space makes me a wee bit crazy, so that encouragement is very much appreciated.

The rug is super inexpensive through a doorbuster black Friday sale, so I'm not sure it will be as economical to purchase after this week. Otherwise, getting the $7 model would be a great idea.

I like it too. If the colors on my monitor are accurate, and that is always key, it will look lovely in your room.

I love your quilts! Did you make them?

Thank you, Msmeow. Both quilts are handmade, but not by me. The one on the ottoman really was made by an elderly grandmother named Annie who made many, many quilts for her family telling them that they were"hugs from Grannie Annie." I picked it up at a yard sale when her children were cleaning out her home. The gentleman wanted our children to know that the quilt was a hug from her.
The wall hanging is from a thrift store. It must have been a bit of a beginner project, since it's not perfectly square, and there is a clever mistake in one of the pieced squares. I have a friend with a discerning eye who visits that can't "unsee" the error now that he's noticed it, LOL. The mistake doesn't bother me, but its being out of square does, and when this room is finished, it will have to be displayed differently somehow.

I think you made a fine choice, it should look beautiful. Love your lit up decor.

I have two laptops here in my office. My own, and my work one with a big monitor. I 'sent' the pic to my work one and it appears more gold than tan, but you're right on the price! It may be neutral enough to work in another room if the color isn't quite what you anticipated with your upholstered pieces in the living room when it arrives.

I think that rug will blend beautifully with the elements in your pretty, cozy room. And I just have to say that I had a Grannie Annie too, and I treasure everything she made for me. Your quilt is so lovely.

Thanks, Yayagal. Evidently, so does my 7 yo. She was looking over my shoulder while I was reading over this thread and exclaimed "Oooh, I like that picture," when she saw the one with the dishes and lights and then she said "wait...is that our house?!" : ) We had a good belly laugh together.

Wow, you were able to double check the colors, My3dogs? That's helpful. One of my dd's is concerned the rug might be too peachy-orangey. Is anyone else seeing that??? I don't think I have another spot for this rug if the colors don't work in here.

Thank you, too Ida and Eld.

What a beautiful, cozy room. I'd take a chance on it. It looks like a warm golden color with a touch of teal and a bit of olive/sage green on my monitor. Good luck! Hope it works for you.

I can't speak to the colors of the rug because my monitor is notoriously off, but your room is lovely. I love the guitars on the wall. The "mistake" in your quilt that your friend cannot unsee may be intentional, as many traditional quilters purposefully included 'mistakes' in their quilts so as not to challenge the idea that only God creates perfection.

I, too, think you have a wonderful room. I think the rug would look nice and add a lightness/brightness to your room; my only concern about it is the piece of furniture (coffee table/ottoman?) under your Annie quilt. Is it fabric covered or something else? If it's going to remain with that beige/gold cover (not the quilt but what's under it (or is that the back side of the quilt?), I think it might blend in and look a little blah if the colors are very close to each other.

Maggie's right about the "mistake" in the quilt - could have easily been intentional. As to it being not square, you could always drape it over the sofa or a chair rather than hanging it on the wall.

Another option. This rug has the colors of our furniture and stuff in it. Wayfair rug Too dark? Is a black background a poor choice for 2 white dogs? (Chair and ottoman have been slipcovered in dropcloth fabric since this photo was taken.)

Thank you, Oly. The ottoman is slipcovered in a cream and tan ticking stripe cotton, so I think the contrast is there.

I like the quilt explanation maggie and msmeow. I do have a chair where the quilt could be draped. Good idea! Can you spy the "mistake?"

    That really stands out

Do you mean that the mistake stands out, Kippy?

2nd row, left "basket", two green (?) triangles need to be rotated 90 degrees couterclockwise. I agree though that it may be purposeful. And, it's still gorgeous!

    Yes yes the mistake!

i like the rug but not sure about it with some other fabrics in the room it would look great in my dining room. Lol

I LOVE the dogs! Tell me about dog hair...no matter what color it is, there always seems to be a good supply of it.

I think your room is lovely. I like the rug, but am unsure about the actual color. If it were me, I'd order the mat size to be sure it's a good match. Also, if I may suggest - move your curtain rod off of the trim molding around your window. From what I can see, I'd suggest it go all the up to the ceiling.

If you haven't ordered yet, try RUGS5 as code. Should give an additional 5% off.

Torrey, I think that is a horizontal blind. It was a curtain I would agree.

No to the second rug, your dogs fur would stand out too much and it would pull down the charm of the room. Love those doggies.

If you feel the rug is too peachy, take a look at something like this.

Yep, you found the mistake, all right. Thanks for the sweet words about the dogs, we're quite fond of them. There is a horizontal blind on the picture window. I've been biding my time till DH can get the curtain rods up so that blind can come down. I agree Torrey. The curtains will be hung higher when that happens, and stacked to the sides. Thank you for the code NSM!

DH wasn't totally convinced about the 1st rug I posted. And, I'm concerned that it's reading peachy on my screen.

Yayagal, thank you for the suggestion. You know, that's sorta funny that you found that rug. I was looking at the same rug in a different color way this morning! Safavieh Antiquity in Blue/Gray

This is another one that I've eyeballed online for a while now, but now I'm not so sure. cottagey rug

I'm off to hang dining room curtains. DH got our bay window rods finished last night. Yippeee! : )

I feel the rug yayagirl chose would blend better with your furnishings instead of standing out too much with the very light border and stronger peachy color of the one you picture. However, it's your home and all we can do is suggest.

I like the antiquity in blue gray you posted
