Hi Justin. These are 3/8" threaded metal rods suspended to the joists. The shelving doesn't touch the floor at all, and there is some minimal anchor to the wall behind so it doesn't rock too much when we touch it. The anchor in joists is made of a special piece where half of the length is threaded for wood and the other half is threaded for metal. This is then joined to the actual rod with a union (a long nut uniting this anchor and the rod).

Hi I live in Montreal, where did you get the shelves from? I have a brick wall at home and want to do the same set up as you!

Hi nabaa. These are entirely home made from recycled wood (about 10 inches deep and 2 inches thick). The support is explained in the answer just above.
