Why didn't you put down a larger rug?

I have always been told (with magazine articles written by designers stating the same) that an area rug should be large enough to at least be able to extend under the furniture legs. I.E. The rug is not under the couch as it should be. Also, the couch seems too big for the area?

Hi Kimberley, thank you so much for the question. The wide angle used to capture this photo and everything in the room distorts things a little. I can assure you the sofa is not too large. In terms of the rug, there are no rules in decorating. In this case my client already owned this rug and wanted to use it, so we did. Thanks again for the question.
