Finished Basement

Our vacation home is a raised ranch with a finished basement that's about 1400 sq ft with two bedrooms, a full bath and our family room.

It's where we watch tv, play games, play with our dogs, and just hang out on the weekends.

In 2018, we're going to start renovations on it. They won't be extensive, like the upstairs, but we do want to make it a walk-out and add two large windows to bring in more light.

We had it painted last week and it definitely looks much brighter and fresher. But, it's a large space and I want to add something to the walls. So since it's supposed to be a fun, relaxed part of the house, I was thinking of going to my print shop, and printing out all my favorite memes, framing them, and hanging them all over basement (sans the bedrooms.)

What do you think? Should I do it, or is it a bad idea?

Memes like this:

Please don't take offense, they're mostly funny :)

If they make you and your family/friends happy, then do it. My own advice in terms of placement, though, is to frame them in one type of frame and choose 1 wall for a grid placement. They're very heavy visually, so I'd add cohesiveness with matching frames and a large, symmetrical grouping of them.

ETA, imagine these with colorful memes:

I think that's a great idea! Would be a fun use of wall space and would make you smile and sort of "set the tone" for the casual activities that will take place in the room. I like Lisa's ideas for displaying them together.

Hmmm. I don't know if those represent a message/mind set that I would want my family focus on. They are funny though!

I would say this is a very personal decision, which falls under the ubiquitous advice of "do what you like in your own house". That being said, I find your examples, though relatively benign, to also be sort of mean-spirited, compared to Lisa's example of positive messaging. I, too, would ask what you want your family to see on a regular basis.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to print a few out, put them up and see how I like them before I frame. I'll also try the grid placement like Lisa suggested.

My only concern with that is I don't have a lot of space on any of the walls. They all have a ton of doors (for closets, bedrooms, bathroom), that's why I thought about spreading them out. I will take pics once done and post though.

dee- My family is incredibly funny and sarcastic with a twisted sense of humor at times, they appreciate memes.

Besides, this isn't our primary residence. It's a vacation home that's supposed to be relaxing and fun.
