What Color Should I Paint my Garage Door?
Comments (13)Gosh, we just encountered the exact same problem today. We bought an older home, a foreclosure in very bad repair, and had to replace garage doors almost first thing. Doors came white; wood on house is a pale, creamy yellow. I've come to the conclusion that the doors should disappear, not stand out. I'm having them painted the yellow. Guess it depends on the house, but I like them to recede into whatever that particular elevation is....See MoreWhat color should I paint my garage door?
Comments (10)patricianhall has a great idea. I would improve the landscaping for more curb appeal. I would consult someone who specializes in landscaping for the correct plants or a private nursery - show them a picture of your house. They will be able to advise you on appropriate plants and correct distances from sidewalks and house for the plants that are chosen. Cannot see a sidewalk. Perhaps it is there; but if not, a nice sidewalk curving down to the driveway would be a nice and attractive feature. Can you add a wooden column to hold up the porch cover? It appears that there is an aluminum or steel one now. This would update your look. If you dont like white, I would paint the garage door gray and the area under the middle window; but leave the trim around the windows white. Gray is very popular now. I would also update the light fixtures beside the garage door and get somewhat larger ones for more visual interest....See MoreWhat colors should I paint my house, garage doors, trim and windows?
Comments (12)My sister had a similar problem with wood interrupting large sections of the front of her house. I suggested she paint the body of the house all one color, even the eaves, underside of the overhangs and gable ends. The transformation was stunning. First, the house no longer appeared chopped up so it looked much larger and by using the color all the way up to the facia it also made the house appear taller. Yes, the wood will still be there but it will just sorta fade into the background. You can then select a complimentary color for your facia and trim around doors and windows. I would also suggest you top off the windows with some nice shutters in yet another complimentary color and your garage doors could be painted the trim color or the color of the shutters. It will add more interest and again detract from the mixture of materials. Another suggestion that someone may have already mentioned is to add molding above the large window on the left side of the house. Again, this will serve to add another feature that will draw the eye to the window and not the wood above it. You could also add a wood trellis across the top of the garage doors and a vine growing on the trellis would look great and conceal more of the problem. Your dark walnut door would pop if you painted the house a Lenin or taupe color, trim a true white and a very dark green or off black on the shutters. Theses are just a few ideas that will not break the bank or require tearing anything out. Wish I had before and after photos of my sisters house. What followed were a lot of copycats in the neighborhood. P.S. You might be reluctant to paint the brick but it will look awesome when done....See MoreHelp! Comments (2)Hi! You have a lovely home. This is a bold choice, but taking a cue from your landscape/tree, a deep eggplant/bordeaux door & trim might look really beautiful. Against the brick, if you use a deep, rich shade, it won't read awfully "purple" and you could keep the garage cream. Good luck!...See MoreTimmys Girl
