Wet rooms in Central Florida

Anyone know any contractors or companies one would contract locally that would do this type of work? Or what type of company I should be googling who would do the best of this work?

We need a wet room type bathroom for my dad who has M.S. and is in a wheelchair. We are purchasing a new house hopefully in the near future and want to research who to use so we can have it done before we move into the house. Thank you!

Wow really? I had been reading other forums for people who had done it before, mostly in the UK tho, and they all mentioned they redid their homes and was only around 10k or so. Thanks I'll have to look into that.

Check the background of your licensed contractor extensively.

Curbless might add 10K extra to a master bath renovation, but that master bath renovation is 30-60K average to begin with. You don't do just a shower in a bath. You redo the whole bathroom. Especially when you are knocking down walls to add the additional space needed for an accessible bath.

I agree with Sophie - I am in central Florida and our master bath remodel was around $30k. That included swapping location of shower and tub and filling in the shower area which had a 6" step-down.

We were very happy with our contractor. We're in Winter Garden (west Orange county). Email me if you'd like more info on the GC. donnabrisbin at gmail dot com.

We like the house because, other than the bathroom, rooms are very large enough to accommodate dads wheel chair. There really isn't any other work to do than the bathroom. The bathroom itself, even tho its called a master bath, is very small. It's square in shape, and just fits an old stand up retro looking shower stall in one corner, a sink in another, a toilet in the other, and it used to have a urinal in the last one but they took that out.

Then it cannot be the bathroom that you need it to be without sacrificing significant space from somewhere else adjacent. Homes on slabs have to have the slabs jackhammered in order to move plumbing around. It is not cheap or easy to do an ADA bath retrofit. You should probably find your designer and contractor team now so they can have input into the transformation needing to happen.

My realtor has a contractor contact we are going to get to go with us on our second viewing of the house. So hopefully we can get a more exact picture on if this will be doable or not, and in our price range. Thank you all again for your comments.

Be very very cautious of any realtor ''contractor''. Most often they are handymen, without any insurance or license. The realtor wants a sale, and pushes off unrealistic remodeling budgets in order to make the house seem more affordable and to get that sale. I've been doing this for 40 years, and realtors are the same as they ever were. 3 out of 10 are trustworthy, and 1 out 100 has an idea of a realistic remodel budget. A 5 piece master bath is 35-75 for mid range.
