I just don't like kitchen islands. Am I alone out there?
Comments (40)Each to their own preferences and wonderful that we can all follow our bliss whether it is an island or peninsula or kitchen table or sitting on the floor in a yoga position while preparing food. My own bliss it not to have just an island but a continent. I am claustrophobic and don't like staring into walls or cabinets, I like having a view while I cook and have wonderful views so while I'm working, I'm going to enjoy them. I like to spread out while I cook and have lots of space and a 24 inch deep countertop is not going to suffice. I am lazy and like to have short pathways to and from pantries and dining areas so I'm not looping around peninsulas. I entertain a lot and have many visitors and serve casual meals buffet style and islands make good staging and buffet areas. I love seeing other kitchens and ideas and how people like to make their surroundings work for them....See MoreHow difficult is it to reach the faucet in a design like this?
Comments (62)Actually, I read everything you wrote AFTER I had sent my comment. AND in my defense, I had moved the wall between the closet and your bathroom back 6" to allow for a 2'6" distance between the vanity and the tub. BUT you are right, that is not the greatest design and the best place for the tub is still against the right wall (just offering you another option). However, I would suggest putting the bath and shower fixtures against the right wall or even the opposite end of the tub. I would urge you to Consider using a frameless glass door with an overhead rain shower head (it would help contain any water that splashes onto the platform). At the opposite end of the tub where the shower head use to be located consider a tiled built-in wall unit with shelving for all your soaps, bath oils, shampoos. u could use LED lighting or place a TV screen behind a sealed mirrored glass at the upper end of that wall unit. I also urge you to keep the pocket door but have it slide into the wall on the right. Personally, the pocket door is the one items I truly think works in your design. It makes the now 7'x11'6" bathroom look full sized; adding a regular door that opens into the toilet would make that bathroom look like a 6'x8' bathroom. PS Are you sure you have enough closet space if you decide to still expand into the bathroom? Do really need a separate hamper/cabinet next to the sink? Wouldn't it be nice to have a long vanity with the two sinks spread apart at an ample distance. Don't forget the longer vanity will have cabinet space below; and you can always partition the two sink area with an above counter narrow cabinet. The hamper can always be placed in the walk-in closet/change room...that's probably a more logical place for a hamper...See MoreHow to remove teenage boy smell?
Comments (104)For heavens sake. It's common knowledge bodies have a different scent. Don't confuse that with body ODOR, or a stale and unwashed scent. Surely we've had boyfriends, girlfriends where despite smelling "GREAT/just clean!!."......it wasn't attractive to our own nose in the way animal magnetism tends to work in humans and all animal nature. That said........? I have seen sheets with the body shape imprinted on them even after a wash. I have seen undies on the floor that should have met up with a dumpster or a full gallon of bleach. Socks? Don't go there. Put it in the category of rooms that haven't been cleaned to the walls since a move in two decades ago. Ask a cleaning person if you don't believe me! Now factor in this recent survey: Then ASK yourself : ) https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/08/15/tommy-john-survey-45-americans-dont-change-underwear-daily/2026779001/...See MoreMaple Cabs & Look-like Marble - Quartz Counters -- Will this work?????
Comments (198)Hey dmac1108, I’m happy it helped...kind of ; ) So many options can be overwhelming. I wanted to stick with granite to keep the cost down. It also works with our house. I simply couldn’t find a quartz that came close to our budget. No regrets with the granite. We love it! Good luck with your project! You should post before and after — love to see! I’m posting advice for a mini upgrade on our master bath today. This will be a DIY. Hopefully stepping out of the Tuscan trend, a bit. : )...See Moredadoes
