Electronic wax warmers?

I know we are all loving our aromatherapy... but has anyone tried electronic wax warmers. I stumbled upon one the other day that I wanted for the look of it, and now I'm waiting for it to come and see how it works. If anyone uses them:

Do you have any favorite scents?

Do they clean out pretty easily or is it a hassle?

How long do you usually keep the same wax?

I discovered I prefer a burning candle to anything that just adds odors. I light a candle to burn off the cooking odors from dinner...the others just add smell on top of smell. I ran a wax melter this fall and found the no where near as saturating as a candle.

I've never burned a candle that came anywhere close to the throw of a Scensty wax warmer. And I don't have the smoke, soot or fire to contend with.

Beagles, which brand did you buy? I mostly only have experience with Scentsy. I tried the brand WM carries and it was sickeningly strong and caused eyes and nose irritation. You pay more for the Scentsy quality but once again, you get what you pay for. I'll never warm any other brand of scented wax.

Thanks arcy. We do burn candles, but I liked the look of the warmer.

I got this warmer b/c I wanted it for the look:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LEQKSV0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And then I just randomly grabbed wax from Amazon so I could try it out. This is the one I got:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015FOUBTU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Neither has come yet... I am off to check out Scentsy.

That's a pretty warmer. You just paid $9 for cubes with a total of 50 hours of warming time. Scentsy is 8 cubes in a bar and says you get $80 hours. I get much more than that! My warmers are on 24/7. Not all of them. I have 6 out at all times but usually just 2-3 are on. Snow Balls sounds awesome! Oh, if you buy 5 pks of Scentsy wax, you get a 6th one free.

beagles here is the latest Scentsy catalog.

Thanks. So I want the bars to burn in the warmer if I get them from Scentsy? That is the same as the cubes ?

I do have favorite scents. What are you looking for? Romantic scents? Food? Manly?

This month is BBMB month at Scentsy. Fragrances are voted on and the top 20 are brought back for 1 month. I'm ordering 6 bars each of the following: Cashmere, Flutter and French Kiss. Pink Haze, Satin Sheets, Shimmer, Blond Wood and Moonflower, Cashmere Pear, Lavender and White Balsam. There are MANY more that I adore. I couldn't choose just one if I had to. And then there are many that I love but have been discontinued :( You can find the descriptions of each of them with a Google search. To order Scentsy products you have to locate a consultant in your area. You could order from anyone but it's best to have a local consultant so you see and smell the product first. Not all consultants keep a lot of stock on hand. Mine does. Careful ordering from ebay or Amazon. If the bars are not kept in the freezer, they lose their intended fragrance after about 3 months-6 months depending on how they are stored (cool and out of direct sunlight). I take out a few bars at a time and keep them in the dining room sideboard. The rest takes up the entire bottom shelf in the freezer, triple bagged.

Well first, we don't "burn" our wax. We melt it :) Burning requires a fire. Scentsy wax is made to melt at a cooler temp than other waxes. It's not going to hurt animals or children if they sick their tails, paws or hands it in. A bar is made up of 8 cubes. You put 1-2 cubes in a full size warmer. Depends on the size of the room and the scent.

Here are a few bars. You break off the indiviual cubes.

Here's the one I bought for DH's bathroom this season. This is a plugin night light. You'd put one cube in this

This one is in my bathroom right now.

I'll shut-up now lol I can talk about Scentsy for HOURS. And no, I don't sell it. Just a big fan!

    Thanks!!

I will have to order online, as I really do not like in person shopping or dealing with people in person or via phone if I don't absolutely have to. It appears I can just order from their website, and, if so, I think I will just buy some from your list to get started!

I like that the wax is safe for doggy in case they get curious. I worry about candles w/ their tails.

Oh, one more thing. Each cube is supposed to give you 10 hours of fragrance. 90% or more give many more hours than that. The ones I have in the warmers right now have been on for over 24 hours. They are finally ready to be replaced. You can either dump out the wet wax using half a paper towel to wipe the dish or wait till it's cold and just take a butter knife to score it down the middle and pop it out.

Beagles, I don't think you can order straight from their website. On their website you'll see "find a consultant" in the upper left corner. You'll enter your information to find a consultant closest to you. Course you could order from ANY consultant. Also, if you find you want to continue with Scentsy's wax, I'd highly recommend you buy one of their warmers. The bulbs don't burn as hot. That makes for a more even and longer lasting scent throw. If you're going to choose a random consultant (vs one that can deliver to your door and bring samples for you to smell) my consultant would be happy to have you as a customer :) She's great and spoils me with freebies and 1/2 price items...but I DO order a lot of product from her :) Personally I like to be able to smell the wax first tho.

    Snowman balls? ; )

In my cleaning out spree Saturday I tossed two wax warmers (Scentsy) in my give-away-box. They were okay for a while, but I'm over them. My favorite scent was a flavored coffee smell. I can't remember the name. I also like some of those cookie smells. I do have a very pretty blue pottery type one at work - and it looks nice in my office and occasionally I turn it on. So, I'll keep it for now. LOL

I've put the Scentsy on the back burner now with my aroma diffuser. I have to say that I like Scentsy better than other waxes, I stopped burning candles because of all the soot they produce. I'm not having much luck finding a scent of Scentsy wax that I enjoy though. I've gotten tired of buying scents and not liking them and having them go to waste. I find that smelling them cold is not the same scent as when they are melted. About the only one that I really like is Luna. Then I find that when I do like one, they stop making it. I also liked Honeymoon Hideaway but they never have it at the shows. I currently have at least a dozen that I don't like...what a waste!

    LOL, mtn, definitely not!

I most assuredly don't want anyone coming to my house, so I think I will just go w/ the wax I ordered from Amazon and maybe try one or two of the Scentsy ones if I can order online and then go from there. I do love my aromatherapy thing and only bought the warmer on a whim b/c I liked the looks of it, so we'll see how the initial waxes compare. Thank for all the info!

I use candle warmers ... have had a plate and now a crock. Once the initial melt takes place you can easily remove the wick. Sometimes I'll use melts and place them in containers that previously held candles. From personal experience I find candles to have a richer and longer lasting scent than melts.

I have a total of 3 electric warmers, my biggest complaint is that the Walmart cubes don't last the whole day. So thank you for mentioning Scentsy, I will order some cubes from them.

Those Scentsy waxes last FOREVER! I can have one cube last a week with daily use and still smell. I find that after a while, the scent begins to change some but they just keep on smelling for a long time! I've bought some from crafters that only last a few hours. If you have local craft shows, there is usually a Scentsy rep set up selling their stuff. Pretty much every craft show will have Scentsy.

Lucille, do you find that the WM cubes are overpowering at first and then fizzle out to nothing in a few hours? The warmers get hotter, heat the wax hotter and tend to blast you with a fragrance overload at first. Scentsy wax is made to melt at a lower temperature and warm more evenly and for a longer amt of time. The scents are multi-layered. Like a perfume, they have the top, middle and base notes. I have 20 warmers :o

arkansas girl, I hate you have all those bars that you don't like. That's exactly why I think ti's important to be able to smell the bars before you buy them. If you ever smell anymore Scentsy, rub your finger over the wax, back and forth quickly to warm up the wax. You'll get a better idea of the scent. Also the bottom of the bar will smell differently too. I always take the bar out of the clam shell. Luna is one of their best sellers :)

I stopped using scented candles and switched to warmers and melts. That's what I call the wax blocks.

Scentsy is fabulous, but before you order, read reviews online on how large the throw is. I put ours in the LR (large room) and the whole room smells great. I'll use a smaller melt for the kitchen.

I've also bought two warmers and melts from Amazon. Very happy with them. Again, I go by reviews before I order a scent.

Check out the melts at Yankee Candle. Those are really nice. They had a sale after Christmas, a dollar for each melt. I bought a LOT. When they came in they were dried and kind of crumbly and I was a bit upset. But when I melted them, the scent was still there. YC has good sales. More scents to choose from too. Especially floral which is my favorite.

However, no matter what brand I buy, the scent doesn't seem to last more than 2 days in the living room. It can be very expensive if you like them! lol

Where did everyone go? :) I thought you might enjoy this. Today I used one of the YC melts in the LR, Caramel Pecan Pie, when I usually use two. Nice throw and smelled like I'd been baking.

Ten hours later DS pulled into his drive way which is about 30 feet from our LR, which has a chimney. The first thing out of his mouth was how nice it smelled outside (no wind) and I could smell it too! I guess the scent went up the chimney. Nice!

I think the differences in the different brands might be the oil used, whether that is quality or quantity I don't know. The wax itself seems like it is pretty neutral. I supposed if I wanted to look into it I could make wax cubes myself.

Oakley, I'm not sure about other brands but Scentsy only claims to have an intended scent throw of 8 hours, however, mine usually last much longer. Also it depends on the oils used. A lemon scent or a floral scent isn't going to be as strong as the bakery scents. The temperature in your house, humidity and air movement also makes a difference in how far the scent throws and how strong or subtle it is. I don't think any brand can be expected to last for two days but I do have some scents that DO last two days. Scentsy wax is a food grade wax.

I've too had people be able to smell the fragrance from outside (when the windows were open). My Scentsy consultant walked up the sidewalk one Fall afternoon and said whatever I was warming as out of this world. It was a combination of Rum Raisin Cookie and Vanilla Bean Buttercream. I rarely do food scents and only in the Fall/Winter. I think I'll warm that tomorrow :)

Someone mentioned a coffee scent. This months BBMB (Bring Back My Bar) includes "Coffee Tree". It is a very rich and bold (sweet) coffee scent. One of my favs but I can only warm a half a cube as it's quite strong for a LONG time. I like to use 1/2 cube of Coffee Tree and a whole cube of Cinnamon Bear (red hot cinnamon).

If you'll keep your scented wax cubes in the freezer, well wrapped, they'll last forever.

Thanks Oakley. I will check out Yankee candle too. That is funny about your son smelling the wax!

Rum raisin cookies and vanilla bean buttercream sounds great but I expect would make me want cookies!

Scentsy wax is a food grade wax.

Unless one intends to eat it, the wax is merely a vehicle. Some of these warmers will warm the oil itself, no wax needed.

I was looking to buy some Scentsy, but I checked out Ebay and found someone who makes cubes herself and says that some of hers do last a couple days. I ordered from her instead. Meanwhile, I will be looking into buying some of the oils used for cubes.

The oil manufacturers make their profit, and then the cube makers buy the oil and make their profit too, and at each stage there are shipping costs that must be folded into the price, raising it still more. There is nothing wrong with that, but if one would by just as happy warming the oil and had basic tastes so that one did not have to combine the oils in a particular way, then just buying the oil might work.

Good information, Monica, thanks! I still order Scentsy online and I only buy from YK when they have sales. Their prices have gotten ridiculous! Although they do have some nice things to give as gifts.

Buttercream...umm...that would make me order a box of See's Chocolate Buttercream candy!

I love my wax warmer. I make my own scented wax cubes, and sell the surplus. I love switching up the scents and being able to custom make my own. I have one at home and one at work. The chocolate scented one I make has calories,I swear.

As far as how long the wax lasts,it really depends on a few different things. The scent itself, how hot the warmer is,how often you use it, even how high your ceilings are. I leave the one I have at home on 24/7. Depending on the scent, mine last from 1 to 3 days. I also have some scentsy bars which last an average of 2 to 3days and some ones I bought from Walmart that tend to fade after 1 day. I love them all though.

Amylou, where do you buy your fragrance oils for the cubes?

    last modified: 9 years ago

    Candlemaking.com.

I buy all my cube making supplies from them. You can get the oils at any candlemaking website, and most of them have many of the same ones. I recommend candlemaking.com though, only because i know they ship very fast, and have wonderful customer service.

Sorry it took so long to answer you lucille. I work nights and was conked out all day, and didn't see you're question until just now.

Thank you Amylou. I ordered some fragrances from them, can't wait to get them and start experimenting :)

My warmer arrived today. I'm going to try it tonight!

I bought a warmer from Michael's which has the base and a removable bowl. I use scented jar candles on it, which will last for a long time, or the little wax cubes or votive style scented candles in the bowl. I have a couple of small glass custard cups that I also use, so that I can switch scents without cleaning the bowl. I will also add drops of the scented oils that were/are meant for potpourri or lightbulb rings to melted wax when the original scent is gone.

I rarely keep it on for a whole day -- a little goes a long way with me, so I don't mind inexpensive melts that are good only for several hours.

When it is time to clean the bowls, I just put the bowl into the freezer for a short time, then the wax pops right out. I have a neighbor who take the used wax to make her own candles.

I actually like very few scents - I really don't like most florals, and many others are too artificial to me (like, "clean linen", or "fresh water" . My favorites are fresh apple (not apple pie), and balsam/pine. I like grapefruit, pear, lemon (if it is not too strong or artificial), gingerbread and some pumpkin spice scents. I usually find a Christmas blend at Macy's that I like, too. I'm fond of the Woodwick candles' Jolly Gingerbread and Cinnamon Cheer. Crabtree & Evelyn used to have a scent called "American Harvest" that I loved.

I would be so happy if someone would make a "fresh quince" scent that really smelled like a fresh, cut quince.

I love the Scentsy bars. I have more warmers than I care to admit. I wanted to share a tip with you all about how to remove the old wax - just drop a cotton ball or two into the warm wax, leave for a couple of minutes and all the old wax is soaked up! A quick swipe with a paper towel or another cotton ball and the warmer is ready for a fresh cube.

I switch on my warmer the next day once the wax solidifies and wait a few minutes and the old wax comes right up.

Amylou I got my fragrances from Candlemaking.com. I warmed up the spent wax that was in my wax warmer and just poured in a couple tablespoons of fragrance on top and that worked well

Two tablespoons of fragrance oil? Isn't that too much? That just seems like a lot but I honestly don't know. I would have put probably a teaspoon.

    last modified: 9 years ago

Scent is subjective. Add to that, that different manufacturers sell scents of different strengths and throws, and the quantity to use is a variable that needs to be established by the user. It seemed to be fine although I spent a lot of the day outdoors. When I came in for breaks from my gardening project, the scent was pleasant, not overwhelming.

I will try a teaspoon next time.

This morning I turned the warmer back on and the scent is still at the same level, I don't know how long the fragrance I put in yesterday is going to last.
