January 28 will be the start of the lunar New year for 2017. Each year has an animal associated with it. This year is the year of the rooster. The rooster brings a wake-up call. People rethink old ideas, ways of doing things. The fire aspect of rooster also brings energy and enthusiasm.

I looked up Chinese horoscopes, but wasn't very pleased; apparently, according to that, I'm a "pig"!,lol! Yuck! It also said that it was going to be a pretty luck-less year for "pigs"...gad zooks, I don't need any more reasons to feel depressed just now; I'm trying so hard to pull myself up, lol! At least in Western horoscopes,I'm a fish (and frankly the character description of the fish fits me much better than that of the pig, because pigs are supposedly very sociable according to the site I looked at).Also the Western one is more encouraging, saying that at the end of this year Saturn will finally leave Pisces and things will start going better for us fish...

I'm a rooster. Is there a link to any of these predictions?

bart, I think the Chinese consider the Pig to be one of the luckiest signs overall. These commercial sites all vary in their predictions; here's a less ominous prediction for Pigs this year:

Bart that's a very good year. The year of the pig is warm hearted, good tempered, loyal, honest, gentle and generous. Beware of people wishing to take advantage of your trust and good nature. My sister's a sheep and didn't like her prediction at all. Sheep are also harmonious with others and have lives filled with friendships. Some people are more flamboyant but have few friends and upset others easily. Being a fish brings you insight, depth of emotion and creativity. Use the rooster's energy to magnify these. Most rooster predictions have a common theme, the work you do now pays off later. This is the time to plan, save, dream and think of better ways to do things.

My annual Feng Shui update class is next Saturday. From what I know this Saturday, our year of the Fiery Rooster will be better than last year. Details to follow.

My guy's a wood snake. Snakes are charming and very confident. Snakes see solutions to things that others don't. Three predictions said male snakes will find their spouses this year or have women coming at them from all sides. At least wood snakes are the most stay at home snakes. The rooster year brings love and romance for our intelligent snakes.

Dragon here. I like that. According to what I read, I will have a lot of energy this year, but around August need to be careful not to overdo it.

Be sure to ask for what you want life to give you on Saturday. I'd love to go to SF for New Years but will probably visit theHuntingtons Chinese garden or to a local New Years event. Wear something red and share a meal with friends or family.

Bart, pig is also known as "boar." My sign too, and I prefer boar. I'm also eighth house of the star profiles, which has to do with timing. This should be a good year for boars with heaven, earth and personal luck. Still a lot of conflict this year but it will be gentler yin rather than robust yang of last year. Year of the Fiery Rooster (Phoenix bird is more spiritual version), with Rabbit in opposition causing trouble, and Dragon as guardian protector. I've done my salt water cure, hung five metal coins with red cord in the south, set a guardian in the west facing west, put crystal or illumination or fiery images or red in all other directions to amplify good fortune.

Do I believe? Hmmm. Feng Shui design principles make house and garden feel to me better to be in and look at. With the cures and crystals and sensitivity to timing, I get the result of a smoother path rather than a wild up/down ride. So.

As for the garden (and house) (and personal life), it's a good year for cleaning, ordering, and releasing. Don't do any major construction in the west.

My uncle's a rooster. My aunt read what I said about the change year and finding it easier to start new habits ( saving money, healthy eating, exercise, being organized, finishing tasks, etc.) Every time she suggests this is difficult or she doesn't want to try something, he comes up and says Cock-a-doodle-do!
