If I had the choice of all those hostas I'd pick Silver platter, its fab.

Thanks for the heads up, Beverly. Lotsa hostas to look at. The big price for an otherwise easily obtainable hosta is because it is Original Stock. Not from a tc. All the proceeds go to making that wonderful Hosta Journal.

Wow, no kidding, Denis. That plant is fantastic. EDIT: I'm liking Hovercraft a lot, as well.

I would take Waterslide or Valley's Ruffle Shuffle...

VRS is gorgeous, agreed Karin! I really like Caid too - a beautiful solid colour and it is the shape of leaf and slight ruffle that drew my eye...Caid the lovely child must be proud to have a hosta named after him. :-)

I picked up Stan The Man from Hosta Choice Gardens last year simply because of my brother Stan. It was to have been his (August) birthday present but I still have it, lol. Not much information available on this hosta until this auction :-). Will be looking for those margin colours this spring.

I think Karin and I have the same taste in hosta, at least this week. My tastes change as I have too many favorites. Miketropic is right the auction varies from year to year. If I had deep pockets, instead of empty ones, a division of Brother Stephan from Olga herself would be a must have. I myself have a bid on some seeds:)

Beverly, hope you win the bid!

Oh my, Karin...you sure know how to pick them! And you sure knew how it would appeal to me, lol. I WANT ONE!

Mike... If you've got $1K to spare for rare hostas, keep looking for them please...and come right back here to show us, ok? ;-) I think any one of Dan's own creations would garner that much money in an auction, IMO.

Karin, that sounds like such a nice idea to give your Mom a Hans hosta. By all means get a 'Karin'! I have hosta namesakes throughout my garden and keep collecting them if I run across them. :-).

You've heard the phrase "Vanity, thy name is woman"? I bought Queen Josephine many years ago - how could I pass that one up?? LOLLOLLOL

    Jo, Beverly,

this one seems to be new, I could not find it in the hosta library. But when I saw it at one of my dealer's shops, I simply had to have it! And it is not expensive, just 14 €, the price of two pizzas :-) I'd rather stop eating pizza than missing such a beauty ...I love hostas with elongated wavy leaves. Put in a high pot they can become centerpieces in the garden. I spend more money for my garden than for my interior design :-) I love to be outside, can't wait for spring to come...but at the moment it is -15° for two weeks now, even the river is frozen. Might be 30 years that this happened last time...

I cant say i have an extra 1k to spend on hosta but sometimes the plant lust gets me lol. I will keep looking for some of the rare ones on my list and will be sure to post pics! I do agree i have seen some photos of dans creations id pony up a good bit of money for. What i was saying more so was where are the sharon stones, big kahunas, super rare stuff this time around?

Yes, I agree with you - it was the Sharon Stone that made my jaw drop. If I lived in the United States, I'd have bid for that one for certain.

Good question though. Perhaps someone in the know will pop in here and offer a comment or two.
