New Feb SWAP for MNF: Put a Little LOVE in your pot.

Make New Friends is a group swap for members and we welcome newcomers. When you join, you will be asked to send your part of the swap first for the first month. No need to play each month but you are welcome to join in and play games or just chat each month.

For February we will be swapping a card, a recipe and something to go into a pot either for cooking the recipe OR some seeds that can grow something in a flower pot. You might send seeds for herbs or veggies used in your recipe. You could send seeds for flowers or veggies that will grow well in pots..... your choice.

The recipe should be for something that you and your family love. Probably something simple that you use frequently. Feel free to be creative in how the seeds relate to the recipe.

Feb 9th will be the last day to sign up, Partners posted on the 10th, and the19th will be the last day for mailing. The card may be a Valentine if you wish and the seeds do not need to be a full pack.

If I have forgotten anything or messed up please feel free to give a shout.

Games will start up soon......

Ok, I'm doing 2 - if I make my own ricotta (just takes a lemon or lemon and vinegar) - I can use up a milk jug (which I'm out of and need more for my winter sowing). I had two recipes come into my Facebook feed for it this week! May have to make it every week and find ways to use it in a lot of meals as I search for more milk jugs! Martha's recipe (just milk and lemon, uses 1/2 gallon) and Bon Appetit (half Martha's recipe, vinegar or lemon) and America's Test Kitchen (full gallon of milk, woo hoo! - uses both lemon and vinegar). I just need one more lemon .. What other recipes contains lots of milk?? (my planting jug of choice) ;-) I'll let you know how it goes ....

Lisa, that sounds fantastic, Bet I'm trying that within a few days.mmmmmm

Maggie I had looked up Ricotta pie and it sounded yummy but called for like a dozen eggs so I passed, but it did inspire me to make a buttermilk pie. One of my old PA Dutch Family favorites.

Now, this recipe you posted is only 6 eggs which sounds more workable. And, it includes some booze so it is on my "try very soon" list.

Oh and homemade /fresh Ricotta is heavenly. When I'm in MO. I get fresh milk from the Amish Dairy and it is sooooo good. No jugs but worth the sacrifice and it makes outstanding yogurt and ricotta..

Thanks and a bonus point to each of you, Maggie and Lisa.

Thanks! I like the 6 eggs as if I have pie for breakfast I tell myself I'm having an egg with some cheese :-) Good to know with the ricotta! I keep seeing the pics of it with a bit of drizzle of spiced oil on a cracker and getting the munchies. I've still never tried a buttermilk pie - saw it on one of he cooking shows and almost tried it but went with an old favorite for baking.

Beth that same recipe with fresh green beans instead of the cannellini beans is very good too!

Is anyone a fan of red and green peppers? I have a great recipe for them that when prepared can be used on any sandwich or piece of meat. They are a bit of a pain but well worth it. I got the recipe 30 years ago from Flip Phillips, a famous jazz musician who was a dear friend of my father. I'll post it if anyone is interested.

    Checking my lists here

I don't see any post that Tammy or Serena have sent to their partners. The deadline had passed so hopefully they are on the way or in the mailbox.

My count for BINGO is Maggie 8 Lisa and Dan tied at 9

two of the secret words have been called on is still open/waiting

Lisa, sweet peppers or hot peppers? Summers when peppers are abundant we make Sweet pepper relish. I have family who say, "The hotter the better" but I'm not one of that group.

Beth, they are very mild peppers. The only heat is the crushed pepper you add because you use sweet red and green peppers.

I'd like to read the recipe,Lisa. Thanks

Good morning Everyone! And happy Friday to you all! I'm just getting back online today after taking a break for a few days of enjoying the sunshine. We've been breaking some records up here in Michigan, and I've got to tell you, being able to enjoy the 60s in the middle of February is fantastic! But, like the saying goes, all good things come to an end, and I woke up to 3 inches of wet snow and temps in the high 20s, though it's supposed to get a little warmer today and get into the 30s.

So Beth, you want some recipes? I have a go-to comfort recipe when I want to break up the monotony a little bit. First I cook some pasta, usually shells or elbows, but sometimes thin spaghetti. While the pasta is cooking, I melt some butter in a skillet and fry up some lobster or crab. Imitation is fine, but I prefer to use the real thing. While the lobster is frying, I cut a medium-sized onion into slices and add it to the skillet, followed by diced fresh mushrooms. Once the pasta has cooked, I drain it and add it to the skillet, and keep stirring while the pasta fries. Sometimes I'll add a little pineapple or orange juice, just enough to keep things wet but not enough to make it a soup. Once all of that has cooked down and the lobster is a nice golden brown, I shred some parmesan cheese over it, toss in some chives, stir it real good, and serve it in a nice big bowl.

I don't measure when I cook, and I like to throw things together that might seem odd, but together they make a good dish, and every bite is just a little different.

So what's everyone doing to beat the mid-winter blues? Normally I plant some seeds in the house, but with MarcAnthony being only 4 months old, and Grumpy liking to eat the occasional "salad", I'm depending on my cacti terrarium, orchids, and aquariums to get me through until Spring.

Gee Dan, that sounds awesome. I'd need garlic/onion in there but it sounds delish!
    How about a BINGO word?

Rice cooker........i mostly use mine for veggies and" hard boiled eggs"

Beth, it's delicious, and I do add some chipped garlic to it occasionally. I like throwing together foods that don't normally get put together, and finding out what happens. After all, who would have thought bananas and peanut butter would pair up so nicely, or peas and pasta? Someone had to think of them first, right? Lol!

"RICE COOKER" gives me another word on my bingo list! Just a few more to go!

    Just need three more words...

Maggie, Tammy and Serena, I'm sending you messages

Bingo word for today is Fry Daddy

there are three days left in Feb including today and 5 words still in the cup.

The first word for today is Kitchen Aid mixer

    I'm at 10 words. :-)

Lol, just five more words, and I'll have a bingo!

swept the floor and found a lost word........

    Electric Kettle

BINGO is drawing to a close and it remains a close race

    here is today's first pick

    Vacuum Sealer

Still waiting to hear from Serena and Tammy to get things wrapped up for the month

Beth, I don't know if I've got one word left, or two words! Good game!

my count shows two players at 10 and one at 11.

So, this may be the final word," Rolling pin"

Beth, if my secret word is "Chili", then that's a bingo for me! Chili is the only word I have left...

    Good job, guys!

I still needed, "Chili" and "Potting Soil." Lol

I don't know, Beth hasn't said anything yet, so the game continues until she blows the whistle....

I posted a word here yesterday but forgot to cross it off on my list so my count was wrong back at vacuum sealer. The word I forgot to mark was "Electric Kettle

Recount shows Maggie 12,Lisa 10, and Dan 11...... If i'm counting right Now.

If anyone ever wondered when they are hostess why I never play BINGO..... this is an example of the reason.

Your Free words were Nesco Roaster for Dan and Maggie and bread machine for LIsa.

Please recount for me as I don't want any more mix up's. I will send a prize for each of you are you have been super players this month.

So, OK unless someone finds another goof up I'm "Blowing the Whistle"

Beth, I'd be at 11 right now, with only "chili" to go. However you want to call the game is fine with me, you're the ref. And a good one too! But then, you've always run a good swap! So, breathe, go make yourself some pasta in your bread machine, and enjoy!

Thanks Beth! I do have 11 from my list now plus the free Nesco for 12.

I just needed one more, lol. This was a fun game!

I'm going to post March into spring in the morning. I'll try and keep it reasonable for everyone.

Maggie I am sorry it has been a busy month. I am just getting your pack in mail today. It has been ready and thought my daughter mailed it but i seen it on the dining room table last night. I don't go in there often unless the kids or grandkids are coming home. I wondered why you hadn't posted you received it - now I know! So Sorry!

Serena so very sorry to hear about your grandmother. Hugs and lots of prayers for you and your family.

Beth I noticed further up you mentioned not getting notifications. I am not receiving notifications of posts to my email and when I check my houzz PM it goes to a white screen.. I just got an email from another swap thru my regular email and they said they had sent me a private message on houzz. So Beth how did you fix yours? I emailed Houzz about it. Your issue may not be like mine.

Tammy, I went to my page and re-set my preferences. After two or three days, I started getting the notices again. Not sure what happened or what fixed it. Computers remain a mystery to me. LOL

No worries Tammy - When you do mail my swap package, just remember to post the tracking number (even non-priority padded envys get tracking numbers these days) so I can watch it and know when I need to take a trip down to the post office. :-)

Well Beth I just tried that and it didn't work.. so guess I will wait for my son.

Maggie here is the tracking number it says tomorrow so I hope you get it then. Again I am so sorry!
