Why is Trump so orange?

Just watched the latest fake news conference. That man truly is as orange as a cheeto. What is he doing to himself? He looks like he has jaundice. Is it bronzer? Self tanner? Too many carrots?

I don't want to turn this into another political rant thread but what would turn someone's skin so orange?

    This explains the underwear/temple garment.

Thank you for the link, always1step. I had no idea, that was an interesting read.

I'm sure that all of us are comparable to super models and our husbands could make the cover of GQ...RIGHT?! HAHAHA! I certainly see men all day everyday when I go out and about on my daily adventures that make Trump look like a GQ model in comparison! Since when is the president supposed to be some perfect GQ model?

I agree Arkanasa, but Trump's coloring is distracting, and that is the difference.

Well if it really is all due to trying to cover up rose acea some should tell him about bye bye redness. It is life changing.

A narcissist only sees what he wants to see, so he looks great to himself. That's why he keeps that hair style, which hasn't changed in thirty years. He probably thinks he's a very handsome man, which is why he can sexually assault women. He thinks it's a compliment to them. Sick freak.

Arkansas girl, nobody expects him to look like a GQ model. It would be better for him, maybe, for his hair and oranginess to not be such a distraction and source of comedy.

Arkansas girl, truth be told, if he were a decent, compassionate, respectful, truthful, honorable, intelligent human being, most of us would quite likely be willing to defend his odd look. As it is, though, the ugliness seems to just seep from his pores, and that is why so many find him thoroughly objectionable.

Just gotta say this is one of the funniest discussions I've seen here... flap-a-doodle-doo, Mormon underwear thing, the makeup tutorial! Thanks for all the chuckles.

Compare this pic of Melania's father to the GQ pic of Trump, posted above. Just sayin'.

    ETA, from 2007:

Although nothing Donald Trump could do to improve his looks would make me like or respect him, without a drastic change in personality and policy, I'd much prefer the more natural appearance. He would be less of a laughing-stock, which could only be good for him and for our country.

Well, now I really feel sick.

I hope he doesn't normalize his flappadoodle brassy hair or orange skin. He may as well show outward signs of his character disturbance.

Evidently the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. This is a pic of his parents, from his wedding to Marla Maples (obviously). Looks as if his father has a bad rug and a comb-over.

I'll bet he looks in the mirror and sees Robert Redford.

Melania actually looks happy and normal on that picture with her dad.

So why aren't we sitting here picking Robert Redford to pieces. To me it looks like they have the same hairdresser. They actually DO look a lot alike in these two photos.

That may be because Redford is an aging actor and Trump is the leader of the free world. Trump needs to step up and look the role. Make us proud that he is our leader -- oh well, that is never going to happen. Many world leaders are not physically attractive people but they do look polished and professional, not like the last Cheeto in the bag.

    last modified: 9 years ago

I don't think Robert Redford has aged well, considering the very handsome man he was in his younger years. I wouldn't venture to "pick him to pieces", though, because he's not repulsive to me in the way that the SCROTUS (So-Called Ruler Of The United States) is.

Arkansas girl, why do these comments seem to surprise you? The Donald's physical appearance was comic fodder long before he ever made it known that he believed himself to be actual presidential material.

"The last Cheeto in the bag" cracks me up. That one is always the orangest from sitting in the Cheeto powder.

I agree with IdaClaire and dedtired. I posted that pic of Robert Redford because I remember seeing him interviewed a few years ago (maybe with, or in relation to, Barbra Streisand), and thinking that, to have been such a handsome youngster, he wasn't wearing his age well--obviously dyed, fluffed hair. But he speaks so much more succinctly and intelligently than Donald Trump, and in the absence of bigotry, racism, and evidence of groping, he can be forgiven.

The relevance of his comically bad appearance is three fold:

    1. These choices show that he is delusional. Would your DH go around like that? And if he tried to, would he rethink it based on reactions?

    2. Some people are born unattractive and they can not help it ; it is truly cruel to make fun of them. He is unattractive because he made stupid decisions that are clearly designed to try to make him look younger. They speak to a juvenile level of vanity and lack of seriousness.

    3. He has the means to get good "beauty" advice, but ignores the experts. Great.

I know more about Isis than the generals do. Believe me.

He knows more, or better, than most people about most things. So yeah, he is delusional enough to think he's a fine-looking fellow.

I don't think Robert Redford has aged well, considering the very handsome man he was in his younger years.

I read an interview with him quite a few years ago--Redford chose not to get multiple constant plastic surgeries to maintain his looks as long as possible. If he lost parts because of that, he was fine with it.

The interviewer made reference to a actor and friend of Redford's with whom Redford had made two very big hit movies in the70s. Redford commented that what his fellow actors chose to do regarding plastic surgery was their choice and none of his business, but for himself, he wouldn't do it.

He has the means to get good "beauty" advice, but ignores the experts...." Not surprising that's his M.O. for everything in his life.

Hmmm, I just saw "All is Lost" (lousy movie IMHO but dh loved it) with Mr. Redford and couldn't help but thinking that I still wouldn't throw him out of bed for eating crackers.

I have the impression Trump has never been comfortable in his own skin and embraced what God gave him. I also think his skin is just bad, perhaps sun damage or rosacea?

Some guys, for example, lose their hair and just embrace it. No comb over. No bald mullet. They just crop it real short, or shave it all and polish the dome.

As a woman, that confidence is far more attractive than the contrivances Trump goes through on a daily basis.

Trump doesn't look bad in the photo Ida posted. Redford looks worse, to me. He's just not aged well--his facial skin in particular. But kudos to Redford for getting no plastic surgery.

I think Trump's tremendous ego is such that he just can't abide the idea of getting older and accepting how bodies change with age. He's certainly not alone in this, given the extent of plastic surgery in Hollywood and the fact that I can name a few very bad comb overs and too-much-makeup in my own workplace.

But to the original question: why is D.T. orange? That's a mystery to me.

    last modified: 9 years ago

I think he probably thinks he got elected the way he is and has no plans on drastic changes. If you think about it maybe that's the way to be. Hillary got beat up over her appearance for most of her adult life and only got it right during her last run. Whoever was in charge of her hair, makeup and wardrobe did an excellent job.

Totally agree that Hillary's people did a great job on every level.

    I think she's a handsome woman-which is a compliment!

I usually try to keep my cool when I see a celebrity but I ran into P. Allen Smith who has a garden show on PBS. He was at Crystal Bridges museum in Arkansas and his face was oranger than a cheeto. I couldn't help but stare. His face was perfectly smooth and the orange was perfectly applied or whatever. It might have been sprayed on or something. I found out lately he was doing some filming there and when I saw him on tv he looked perfectly normal. He has sort of the same coloring as Trump and I suspect they would look really pale and washed out without some help.

    last modified: 9 years ago

It's not about being pale or washed out naturally.

When I fly overnight, and especially when I used to fly overnight, land, shower, and then conduct meetings, I used to use a self tanner on the plane while I slept. I am pale-skinned, with light eyes and light hair. The self tanner worked wonders (it was a little towelette) to undo the jet-lagged look. It even gave my cheeks a little bit of that kind of shine you get on your cheeks from being in the sun.

But I used one towelette, one day. I promise you I never looked orange. I did not even look tan. I just did not look washed out.

There are many ways to enhance one's looks subtly and appropriately

People who look absurd, be it self-tanner overload, umpteen facelifts, drawn-on eyebrows where there are none, or puffy injected lips, are showing bad judgment. They are making bad choices.

    Sad.

    Love this product, btw:

Robert Redford is 80!! The Trump is only 70. At that stage of life, 10 years can make a big difference!! Redford has also been an avid outdoorsman all his life, which could account for that rugged complexion. Trump's exposure to outdoors is stepping from his limo to his hotel or assorted mansion.

Loved Steve Colbert's reaction to the press conference. Trump claims he "inherited a mess", to which Colbert responded "No, you inherited a fortune --- we elected a mess." Perfect!!

Ooh, that is a good line!

Robert Redford was once one of the most stunning men on earth (IMO). Looks fade, of course, but Trump never had them.

I suppose it wasn't really fair of me to say that Redford hadn't aged well. If he's 80, well ... he's not too shabby. I think I just have such vivid memories of the young Redford, and perhaps it's my own fear of aging that's preventing me from really wanting to accept the fact that he's an old man.

I saw Robert Redford about 35 years ago. OMG! That face. That smile. And he was so polite. I think he is as beautiful today as he was back then because when I see him all I can see is good man.

    "Your girl is lovely Hubbell".

    Sigh...

Saw Jimmy Fallon doing a DT press conference imitation and he had the same orange look, so it is a technique obviously known to some makeup artists out there!

Strange sidebar: Years ago, DH and I were out one evening and struck up a conversation with a nice-looking man seated next to us at a bar. He said he was from L.A., in town for business, and began regaling us with stories of celebs and show business. He told us that he was Redford's half brother, and he bore a tremendous resemblance (his hair was a bit thinner, but the facial features were so strikingly similar). He also said that he had been married to Jane Wiedlin of The GoGo's. He tossed around a lot of recognizable names. He gave us his business card that showed him to be with MGM Studios. The night progressed, and he ended up following us (in his car) to a sports bar owned by a longtime friend of ours. We liked our "new friend", found him very congenial and interesting, and were eager to introduce him to our local friends. The place was crowded, with friends gathered around our table, and the minute DH's back was turned, our "new friend" grabbed me and (aaaack, it still makes me sick to think about it) - stuck his tongue right down my throat. I was in absolute shock, but I did have the wherewithal to slap him hard across the face. He immediately ran - and I do mean ran - out of the bar and took off.

I was utterly disgusted, and the more I thought about it, the more I suspected that this guy wasn't who or what he claimed to be. It began to dawn on me that he used his "Redford good looks" and phony business cards to dupe people, and quite probably to prey on women. After a lot of sleuthing around, I managed to get a phone number for MGM Studios (of course the number on his card was non-working), and after some shuffling around, I was put through to their security personnel who were very interested in what I had to tell them. Of course, no one by this guy's name or description was employed by MGM. I also gave a statement to local police who said they would step up patrols in the area where we had met the guy initially.

So ... while I maintain my affection for the real Robert Redford, the fake creep did sort of sour me a bit on the name. And I realize this tale is neither here nor there (and certainly way OT) - although it is a story of yet another nasty man who felt he had the right to force himself physically on women.

    last modified: 9 years ago

This is going OT, too, but IdaClaire your story reminds me of one my sister told me last week. She is a very capable public employee, who is in charge of filing complaints for inappropriate behavior for employees of the offices where she works. A young female co-worker had complained that a member of the public had rubbed her breast, when he put his hand on her side, ostensibly to move by her in a narrow space.

My sister took the report, then confronted the man. She said he was not fazed at all, and asked her if she'd followed the campaign. She told him she wasn't sure which campaign he meant, but it didn't matter because their policy is not to discuss politics or religion with members of the public. He told her that he wanted her to know something anyway--that Donald Trump had admitted to groping women, and he was elected President.

Of course, my sister told him that his behavior was not going to be tolerated, and told him he'd have to leave. Creeps like him have been around a long time, but they have been emboldened. Hey, if the leader of the country can do it, why can't they?

ETA, dedtired, I apologize for adding my gripe to your rather light-hearted thread.

I love Steve Colbert. I watch him egg DT on every single night and he's gotten quite good at it! I've also noticed that 99% of his guests are not DT fans.

Omg, Ida what a horrible experience.

This is one meandering thread, but fun to read, except for Ida's tonsil tickling experience. I enjoy the LA Review Of Books and came across this blog about Trump's taste in decor and his appearance. It's really good and absolutely nails it.http://blog.lareviewofbooks.org/essays/president-mistook-wife-drape/

That is really terrible Ida...I can only imagine how horrified you must have been, bleh!!!

Last night, I was watching a montage of old Letterman interviews and one was with Ivanka from about 10 years ago. During the interview she mentions that Melania cuts Don's hair. Made me think of this thread.

    last modified: 9 years ago

If Melania is in the room most probably won't be paying a whole lot of attention to President Trumps faux tan. This is from two days ago and she was stunning in a Karl Lagerfeld outfit.

I guess Trump forgot about his 1991 quote about the media:

"You know, it really doesn`t matter what they write as long as you`ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.”

maddie, I keep seeing that photo of the bronzer "tan-line" on twitter with instructions NOT to retweet it because it will certainly annoy him.

Just got back from one conference and off to another soon. At least I get some downtime from him!

I think T looks his best in that last photo above. Not terribly orange, just a little bit too made up.

Melania, without a doubt a lovely woman, debases herself by constantly copping that vapid slack-jawed model look, with the squinty eyes, the pout, and the apparent admonition that posing nude in soft core porn is fine .... but never, ever show your teeth.

It reminds me of all the duckface photos the teen girls take. But they are teen girls.

Face it, these two are sooooo easy to mock it's not even fair.

Melania look very pretty in her Karl Lagerfeld outfit. I don't tink there is any argument that she is not a beautiful woman and wears clothes well when she's wearing the. However, look at Trump in that picture. Tie too long (although only a little in this photo), baggy saggy looking suit pants and even his shirt cuffs are not matching.

I have to give Melania credit for being able to maneuver in the very high and skinny heels that she wears. I saw a oicture of her arriving in Florida in today's paper and her heels were impressive.

Trump has a certain style, that's for sure! He can afford to have the very finest suits made for him and flown in First-Class from China, yet he apparently likes baggy clothing.
