My sofa is here! I need help with accent chairs/pillows please!

I would love some advice on accent chairs and pillows. I picked up the blue chair and pillows thinking I need to add some color to the room. But, now that it's in the room I'm just not sure. To me it almost looks out of place but maybe I'm just use to the soft colors and it is throwing me off.

Should I try to keep it more monochromatic? Any advice would be wonderful!

    Did pillows come w/the sofa.

I think I would be consistent with size and color of any added.

What you could do is place/lay a throw on the chaise that compliments the chair blue

ingrid, I think the coffee table needs some big accessories like a woven, metal or lacquer tray , boxes, etc, to break it up a bit

I love the blue touches- I think the chair looks great. I agree with the suggestion above about a blue throw. I think maybe just another touch or two of blue and it looks great. I'd be happy living there.

I really like the blue in your room! I agree to add just a bit more blue elsewhere. And maybe add a few plants? I always think they add a lot to a room, but understand they may not work for everyone.

I like the chair and agree a navy throw would help. I also think the navy pillows need to be bigger. They look too small for the sofa and need to stand out more. A couple more touches elsewhere, maybe on the table below the horse art and on the coffee table would be good. Play around with it as you don't want to overdo it.

    Your sofa is beautiful.

It's not clear if you can return the chair. If so (and If you like navy), I'd get another that isn't solid. Perhaps a cream and navy print. To my eye, the current chair stands out like an elephant in the room. FWIW, I'd prefer to see more muted tones in the room. A lot of people on these boards like 'pops of color' in a room. In your case, I prefer the softer look.

k9arlene-I couldn't figure out why or what it was I didn't like about the chair but you hit the nail on head! I think I convinced myself I needed a pop of color. But, it just does not look right to me. Muted tones in rooms seem to make me feel relaxed and a lot of color almost gives me anxiety! lol. I will post a picture of another chair I think might work well in the room. Oh, yes I can return it and I have taken it out of the room along with the blue pillows. I like it better already.

Here are a few chair options

I think if you are going to keep the chair, you need to pull the navy in with the browns and tans with pillows and possibly artwork. Here are a few ideas for fabrics. I am sorry. Also, something navy on the coffee table would help.

Other idea would be to bring pillows with a lot of blues in them and then bring in the blue/white chinoiserie vases, bowls, etc. Your room could have a bit of a British equestrian look.

I like the first one. I think the backs of the last 2 are too high compared to your sofa. Also, I'm not seeing any gray in your room. Maybe my monitor is not showing color accurately?

It's hard to tell from the pictures but I have several gray accents in the room. The roman shades have dark and light gray in them and the shades on the fireplace are gray with black trim just to give you a idea of color in the room.

I'm wondering about these chairs in the room. Any thoughts? They are listed as charcoal gray but the reviews say the look more brown but have a cast of grey to them. Another options is a dark gray velvet wingback or grey linen wingback.

Of course it's just my opinion, but all of the large pieces in the room are light colored and anything dark is going to 'stand out' if you will. If it were my room, I'd stick with the creams and beiges for a more monochromatic color scheme which I thInk is very pretty. I also understand that it's not everyone's taste.

I like the arm chair in gray and ivory, which seems to be mostly ivory, and the style and upholstery seem to go with the couch. Without the blue accents some green plants might give some added interest without upsetting the calm vibe that you like.

Good point! I like the idea of adding plants too! I have found some tufted accent chairs that I really like but should I stay away from that since the sofa is tufted? I could move the round tufted ottoman out if the room so it wouldn't be so much.

The color of the walls looks great with the sofa I think. Also the dark blue chair looks nice as an accent color, but I think the color of the wood is a little off compared to the other tones in the room. To me it looks like a much warmer tone than the wood on your coffee table.

I like the idea of keeping it neutral. I find a soft/pale monochromatic color scheme quite calming, but some people might think of it as boring. I also brought in blue for awhile. It was a soft kind of watery blue. Aqua-ish, but not too green. The pillows and throw needed to be replaced and I decided to stick with just the tan/gray combo. I love neutrals.

    It is a beautiful room!

Do I see -hard to describe color- but it's a grayed purple, maybe plum in the roman shades? If so, that's what I'd look for in a chair & pillows. And bring your window fabric to your sofa for a repeat.

My decorator friend brought one these chairs over to try. What do you think? I had mentioned trying this same style above but in a grayish brown color. I didn't think I would like the color she brought but I have to admit I like it. With the other colors in the room I just wonder if the gray would be better or would it just get lost?

Hard to tell......is it brown leather?

Yes, brown leather but has a reddish tint to it.

i think it looks okay, but I'd still rather see a lighter color chair.

I like the blue in the room better than the browns in the last edition of pictures. The blue cleans it up a bit more. Both chairs are pretty colors. Could you add some navy in addition to the more muted colors that you like. Or maybe a very light soft blue/turquoise grey.

The TV images are adding color to the room that may be distracting my evaluation, lol.

is that where the chair will live? I'd like to see it placed more like the blue one was in your original pic. but maybe angled on the corner. I think it will be easier to tell about the color if it's more on the rug. My initial reaction is that it takes your beautiful, calm, and soft neutral palette to a beige/brown/boring place.
