I think my coffee table is too big for my new sofa! Ugh

I love my new sofa and I've been posting about finding accent chairs but after analyzing the room for the 1000th time I'm wondering if my coffee table is throwing me off. It is massive and worked well with my other sofa that wasn't a sectional. I just don't think it's working here.

Your room is so elegant and absolutely gorgeous! Your coffee table is perfect, IMHO. It could come out a little, as previous poster said, for more leg room.

I don't know - in some photos it looks fine, in others it looks a little overpowering. Your room is so pretty, the coffee table size is definitely a nit pick. Do you have a decorator friend that can stop by and give an in person opinion?

Your room is gorgeous. I do agree that your coffee table does look a bit hefty with your sofa. I think something in a darker wood would be great for contrast.

The thing I think is off is the way the table extends so far past the chaise, although it could just be the camera perspective that makes it look off to me,

It looks a tad big, but I think I could live with it. Maybe try the ottoman there to see how something smaller feels. Nice room!

It is large and the style is bulky. Something in a more simple, elegant style may let the sofa be the star.

It's gorgeous, but has too much mass. Something a little trimmer would work well.

    Wonderful artwork!

If you didn't have the chaise lounge part of the sofa it would be fine. The style of it is fine as well but the table top area size is just too big.

Pretty room. It's not the size alone that throws me off, but all the solid surfaces with much bulk. I'd suggest a smaller table if solid, or a beveled glass coffee table to give some relief.

Seems too big or something. Is it painted? Would you be willing to paint the legs and underparts a more shrinking color, like the darker shade in the rug? Not sure. That would be hard to undo. :)

Move the ottoman out of the room and see what you think. I like the end tables and coffee tables...when you find your chairs your room will be beautiful.

Not at all too big, the room looks large enough to handle it and it goes well with the pedestals you are using for end tables.

I like the coffee table! I do think the bell jar is too large and high and I think a lower object or arrangements of objects would work better. Such a lovely room.

There are so many oversized stone items in the room that it makes the things that are designed to scale for your traditional room look dinky in comparison.

Sorry, I didn't even notice the sofa, just the ginormous coffee table!

I think the table has too much heft-just thick. It's a nice piece, no doubt.

I also have a sectional and have a round ottoman on wheels. I have a nice throw placed across and a tray on top of that (for storage, remotes, beverages).

I think a slightly smaller, round table, in that space would be pretty; and would be easier to walk around :) https://www.bassettfurniture.com/Pine-Round-Coffee-Table-DZ39230.asp

Are the coffee table and pedestals RH? I love the gray wood with your darker walls and flooring. It's a striking decor you've put together. Just needs a handsome chair!

I like the sofa and the rug, but I don't like the coffee table. It's just too beefy, both in structure and in floor space used.

I agree that the coffee table doesn't fit. Your room is definitely beautiful, but that coffee table throws it all off, in my opinion. You can do much better.

ETA: by "fit", I mean both style and size.

Thanks for all the input. The search is on for a coffee table! Lol! It's never ending... what do you think of these coffee table? I really want round but it is hard to find one that is not blah. I love this round one below! Do you think the style would work in my room?

You already have a tufted sofa and a tufted ottoman so I;m not sure whether a tufted coffee table is too much tufting, plus I think the legs are a little delicate for your room.

The second one that you posted it kind of cool. Whether or not it will fit your room or not, I don't know, but I like it.

I forgot to mention that I will be removing the tufted ottoman from the room.

Your room is gorgeous! I love everything in it. It's really too bad that your sofa has the chaise at the end because the table would fit perfectly then. Where is your rug from? It's gorgeous!

I would try using your tufted round ottoman instead of the coffee table, and put a tray on it for drinks. I like your coffee table, but agree it's a little too big. You could also try larger side tables and forego a coffee table.

My eye keeps expecting to see a brass and glass coffee table. I don't know why. I'm certainly not up to speed on home decorating.

I do like that one chocolatesnap posted.

I would tape off the area the size of the table you're interested in to make sure the size works.

For me it's the pedestals on each side that are throwing it all off. They are not needed when you have the big coffee table. In that space I would choose one or the other, side tables or coffee table. Coffee table would look better. I would try the ottoman with a nice tray on top it would break up the tufting. Table definitely needs to be farther away from the sofa and the bell jar needs to be off to another location.

If I were sitting on the chaise end, I would find it annoying having to get up and set my drink on the coffee table, which appears to be out of reach for that end. Maybe side tables instead of a coffee table might work better. You could then do a chair and ottoman by fireplace. Just my .02.

I was at Pier One today and saw this, and thought of this post. Similar style & colors but in a much smaller scale, and they make it in round or square. I like it so much I'm inclined to get it for my sofa with chaise.

It's pretty hugely! I think it looks fine though in your beautiful room. But, do you want just "fine" after all your hard work? I think it could be tricky decorating around the fat ankles. I mean, do you scale everything around the tables fat ankles and get rid of anything anorexic in comparison or would it look better (and be easier) to just get something a little less water retentive? That's the problem.

RH has several that will work.

It doesn't have to match it just has to go with.

Personally I like the style of the table but it seems out of proportion. I think the fact that it protrudes significantly past the end of the chaise portion is what throws it out of balance for me. Also, I like to be able to walk between couch and coffee table, not shimmy. I like the round option posted above.

This "rule" is how I think of it. Maybe a bit strict but close.

Do they make your table in square? I like the beefiness of your table and it's style with your sofa and room but the square may work better.

I think it is too large and massive. I think it would look better with something more modern, maybe glass topped. Or two smaller cube tables instead. I like the tufted ottoman just where it is.

I would choose a rectangular coffee table again with a bottom shelf, but smaller and perhaps made of glass and a dark metal. The chunky side tables somehow don't really fit.

I think that you should get rid of the two side tables at the ends of your sofa. They seem bulky and out of place. I am not sure if you have a floor outlet but you could add some lighting like a lamp on either side if you do.

I am not sure of the dimensions of your room but I saw these two angles of a room on houzz and thought it might help?

I'm with Ingrid and Aktillery, in that I find the pedastal side tables 'off', somehow. I love your new sofa and do like the chunkiness of your current coffee table, but agree a square or slightly smaller table may fit better. I'd like to see what the space looks like with side tables removed and existing coffee table in place.....

The problem is that we use the side tables all the time. They are perfect for sitting your drink on while sitting on the couch. You don't have to even lean forward to pick it up like on a coffee table. (lazy I know) I'm not opposed to changing them out but I don't want to have nothing there. We don't really use the coffee table. The side table also works great for when your on the chaise. We don't eat in our living room so we don't need a big space to put a plate or what have you.

The problem I see with the pedestal side tables is that they look like their tops are missing. I wonder if you could get some glass cut to place on top to actually make them look like tables. Or have wood cut and stained to match the base.

    lorishopaholic thanked k9arlene

If you don't really use the coffee table then how about an ottoman with a tray on it? Then the people on the couch portion have a place to put their feet up.

I have a long, narrow ottoman in front of my couch. It was a place filler while I searched for a coffee table I liked. We got so used to putting our feet up when watching a movie that I never got that coffee table. Mine has a flip up top for storage. I keep a wooden tray in there and when we entertain and need a spot for drinks then I pop the tray on top.

I put my coffee table on Craigslist and it sold in about a hour! I had a list of people interested. Amazing! I'm looking for a ottoman type table as mentioned above but round would be great. I think I will change the side tables while I'm at it. Any suggestions? I don't want a big side table. Do they need to match or is it better if they don't?

How tall do the side tables need to be to comfortably set down a drink? Not surprised the table sold so quickly. It's stunning.

Thanks! The current ones are 29 but I think I could go down to 24 or so and it still be comfortable.
