I have a open kitchen dinning and living area and think it would be nice to have an option to make space on occasion. You don't think it will move far?

The problem with big movable islands is that we usually don't have a place to move them to. People rarely have a lot of open space in their kitchen area.

Recently, at least two GW members have had islands fabricated with metal framing. Ravencajun is one, and her island is moveable--IIRC she has wood-look tile floors. The other was a guy in NYC, I think, but i don't recall his name. He started with the idea of a mobile island, but I don't recall if he kept the wheels.

Do you know anyone, or a metal shop, who does custom metal work?

That's like the "moveable" alter in our church. "Moveable by 8 very strong men, and it has caused harm to the wood floors. It was a very poor idea (and what comes when one builds a church with a committee!).

My island is about that size and I do have some open floor space that I could move it to since the whole kitchen/DR/LR is open.

I have literally never wished I could move it.

Technically if I got rid of the ping pong table, I could move my island too. But I much prefer an island with plumbing and electrical!

I was in love with a pic of a wooden island with big wheeled feet. I got the same responses you did from the forum and from my contractor. I ended up having my dream island built for me - just without the wheels. I still love it, but I was able to have electrical and didn't lose the extra inches of storage I would have lost with feet. Maybe you could get your island made but without the feet or the feet could just be decorative?
