small dirt mounds around my house

There are small dirt mounds around my house about an inch or two in size. When I shuffle the dirt there's a small hole but I have yet to see any type of critter. They are mostly around the back of my house against the brick and about a couple feet out from the house in the yard.

Ants? There are small black ants called "sidewalk ants" that LOVE to get close to stones/concrete. They LOVE to get into the cracks. These mounts sound like ants. Depending on where you are, they might be termites.

I thought termites as well but we have the house treated yearly and I've see no other signs. If it were ants, wouldn't I see them when I shuffled the mound around?
