Poulan Pro hydrostatic transmission will not disengage

I have a Poulan Pro PR20H42ST

It will not go into Freewheel mode I checked linkage everything is up to date I have lifted the ass end of the tractor up I can move the tires when I turn one tire one way the other Tire will turn the opposite it will not go into neutral. The motor will start at fine and run strong but the transmission drive belt squeaks and I have burnt it up at the pulley on the bottom of the engine. I have tried to disengage the transmission and put it in flywheel mode it will not push forward or backwards.

I have completely taken the drive belt off the transmission and it still will not disengage

Other than the burning of the belt, the rest of this isn't terribly abnormal. The opposite turning of the wheels is due to the differential action of the t/a. The hydro release is supposed to work by aligning the ports inside so fluid won't push back through creating resistance, but many behave the same way as yours. So if the linkage externally isn't obstructed , there isn't much worth doing here. The burning of the belt would more likely be where the belt jumped on the wrong side of the guide- possibly at the t/a itself, a seized idler pulley etc. You will want to be sure that the t/a itself is secure and not rocking when torque is applied to it. IE mounting brackets secure and not broken and the same with the torque strap on front of the t/a. If your input pulley is turning freely and not lots of lateral play in the shaft- you are probably fine putting a new belt on it . It may be worth removing the drive pulley to see that it isn't splitting or in need of a scuffing due to it polishing itself on the belt.

Similar issue. My Poulan Pro will disengage though. Problem is, if you push the right side pedal to travel forward then release, it still travels slowly forward. To stop, I either have to tap the pedal to reverse, or engage the left side (clutch/Brake) pedal briefly. Resulting in a loud click from the area of the transmission. Ideas ????

Okay I have checked the pulleys and they are free and not bound. I have disconnected all linkage hand I removed to the belt off of the top of the transmission. moved the lever to disengage the transmission and put it in Freewheel. Same thing the transmission will not disengage

one idea is the brake pucks are sticking even though the brake pedal is released.

Is your tractor the exact same model number? It would be best to post as there are different transmission styles. This way you can get the right info. Ideally start a new post, but we can deal with this one if need be.

Build a new garage around it? Any tell tale noises or smoke? How's the oil level? Does it crank over now? Engine info could help.

Typically the issue is debris above the transmission that interferes with the works. Search for General transmission and they have help videos on repairs
