I think it would get root rot. They really need well drained soil. Can you keep it in a large pot? I have mine in a pot with drainage holes and extra perlite mixed in the soil to further help with drainage. I've had it for 7 yrs in a pot. I just freshen up the soil every couple years. It very healthy. It likes morning sun and a bit of afternoon shade.
