Sliding door in existing wall pocket

Hi,

For some reason the contractor built the wall pocket that will fit in eventually the sliding door for the bathroom before installing the tracks or any hardware for the mechanism. Unfortunately when we called in for the door installation we got almost an impossible answer of doing so without wrecking the wall in order to install the hardware so they can install the tracks and the rest of the hardware.

Is there a way we can do so without taking off the wall ? tool to fix the screw somehow? a telescoping mechanism that will hold the door and take it inside the existing pocket maybe?

Please advice?

If it's just drywall, it's not a big issue to bust through the wall to install tracks. Just plan on where you need to bust through and delineate with cuts so you don't make a mess with something that is difficult to repair.

That sounds like an oversight. When my contractor had to adjust a track, they did put some holes in the wall. Once the drywall/texture crew fixed it though, I could not tell there had ever been a repair. There might be another way, but this is how my contractor handled it. Good luck!

Installing the tracks can be done without putting holes in the wall by someone who knows what they're doing. That being said, it's your contractor's job to responsibility to figure it out, not yours.

You would be way ahead by cutting the drywall out completely where the door needs to be installed and repairing the drywall after installation.
