Fabric to cover dining room chairs

I would like to cover my dinette chairs . They are upholstered now in a beige fabric that has seen better days. I would like to have something that is easy to wipe off but was wondering is their any fabrics less expensive than sunbrella that would do the same thing.

We used a brand called Crypton from Calico Corners. Since we just had them recovered a couple months ago, I can't speak for the longevity of it, but it is supposed to be "forgiving" fabric that wipes easily. It was relatively inexpensive--we covered 6 chairs for about $200(we did have a 30% coupon for the store) and there were many colors from which to choose.

I used naugahyde Vinyl. I used a solid red back in the day when DH made our tressel table and benches and reupholstered our chairs that came in a white a few years ago now. You can't beat it for wear ability or clean up for informal eating areas.

We used Revolution fabric and it is completely stain resistant. It's soft and beautiful. It runs about $10 a yard.

I've used the Crypton fabric for DR chairs. It's an easy care fabric and simply wipe off any spills with a slightly damp cloth. Good to go!

You can check Jo - ann's for a sale coupon to use. If you have a store close by, they usually have samples on display. Not sure if they still allow you to check-out samples and take home for review.

Cost is probably fairly close to Sun- brella but I love the no-stain factor of these fabrics.

I believe it's about 3/4 yard for each two chairs depending on style. I ordered 3 yards for 6 chairs and had enough to add piping. I removed the chair seats from the chairs and took to the upholstery shop I use. Easier to transport than the whole chair. Labor was about $25/per chair.

There is also a sofa re-cover project in the future using Crypton fabric too.

    Good luck!

There are several Crypton fabrics on eBay - HERE..

Solids and Prints - 1232 listings. I wonder how an outdoor fabric would work? There are several hundred at great prices on eBay and Fabric Guru.

Buy the fabric you like and sent it to Resist Flame in Cincinnati and they will coat it with vinyl. Totally wipeable and wears quite well.

JoAnn's sells a clear vinyl by the yard that can be applied on smooth fabrics. I have never used so I can't speak to how well it performs but it might be worth checking out!
