SW Neutral beige with no yellow undertones to go with tan carpet?

Please help me identify a SW neutral beige that has no yellow undertones. I'm stuck with tan / gold carpet :(

I wanted so badly to love balanced beige but it just looks too gray / purple next to the carpet (see sample I painted on far wall).

Any advice before I spend another $50 on samples?! This paint will be used throughout our first floor. Must be SW paint. Thank you so much :)

You might look at SW Canvas Tan. I know your lighting (and carpet) will make a difference, but I've not seen a yellow undertone in what I've seen so far in rooms where it was used.

Hmmm...rethinking based on your mention of gold in the carpet. Darn...Canvas Tan might work with your fireplace tiles.

    Thanks Chloe and Judy!

Well, unfortunately, I bought the drapes within the last year to compliment the coloration in the painting and chairs. So, I need to live with that decision for a while or the hubby will go nuts. I do love the drape sample above. They would look beautiful if I didn't have to worry about the reds in the room.

The fireplace was painted urbane bronze after the drapes and picture decision. I clearly needed a vision for the room before making one off decisions. I'm learning!

I will check out Canvas Tan. Anything gray just simply makes the carpet look horrible. I've been looking at the following:

    - Softer Tan

    - Malabar

    - Kilim Beige

    - Sand Beach

    - Nantucket Dune

    - Urban Putty

    - Barcelona Beige

    - Windsor Greige

If you have any opinions on any of those, I would love to hear them! Thanks again for your time.

Laurie, I'm wondering if the drapes are needed with the plantation shutters. One of the first things I did when we bought our house was remove any fabric treatments included with all the plantation shutters. It's a personal preference, but, to us, it was a much better look with just the shutters.

Can the drapes be used in another room? It's doing it. Love the painting. I love linen drapes.

Beige by it's very definition has yellow in it. It is a light yellow brown. Maybe move away from blah neutrals all together. A light teal, lighter than your pillows, would give the room some life and not fight with the carpet or drapes.

I would go lighter with drapes if you want them with the shutters.

I would have to measure to see if the drapes would work elsewhere. Plantation shutters were just added so perhaps the drapes are no longer necessary. I do like the pop of color they give though. Funny that teal was mentioned because the adjacent dining room is sw riverway! Love all the feedback :)

Laurie, I think the shutters can stand on their own. Again, that's me...nothing wrong with including the drapes if YOU like the look. Opinions on this are here, there and back a few times.

I am onboard with chloe…the shutters would look great alone.

    Good morning all!

I measured and the drapes may actually work in our basement bedroom. I took them down so you could see (clearly, the hardware would need to be removed from the wall. Do you think it looks better?

I also attached an up close pic of the picture so you could see what colors I'm working with. I tried a sample of urban putty today and I really like it!

As a general rule, is it ok to have drapes with regular wood blinds? Just wondering how this design tip of no drapes with plantation shutters would effect my other rooms.

    Thanks everyone!

Laurie, it looks great and makes the room look larger! :-)

Regarding wood blinds with drapes, some pics of the windows in question would help. The pros here can help you with that, but it mostly depends on what looks good to you. For me, blinds have less appeal than shutters, so covering part of them doesn't seem as big a deal.

HELP! The painters come today and I'm still super confused! Urban putty ended up being too gray for our gold / tan carpet after a few days.

Right now, I'm trying to decide between softer tan, macadamia and basket beige from the same swatch for this room (think light, medium or dark).

Softer tan (light) would brighten the room and be more on trend but might be blah and make the carpet look dark. The adjacent foyer will be softer tan.

Macadamia (medium) is almost exactly what we have today, but a bit less yellowy, which is not bad. Safe.

Basket beige (dark), while potentially "off trend" might give the room a richer look but perhaps provide too much brown overall.

I just don't have a gut feel. HELP!!!!!

A few more views. Looking out into the hallway which will be softer tan and looking down into the room from the stairway above. Thank you all so much!

Adjacent kitchen has dapper tan cabinets and bookshelves (same swatch). Riverway accent wall up fireplace.

Don't you want any contrast? It would be so monochromatic!

Give up the darn beige. There is already much too much of it. Do a REAL color. Something green. Something blue. Something terra cotta. Something ELSE.

Had my living & dining rooms painted in SW Urban Putty. It looks great. previously tried others but they turn bluish violet in my rooms. I notice that the Urban Putty is very neutral, almost taupe. I have artwork & pillows, etc. in deep reds & black accents also, it looks great, very rich & sophisticated. But my rooms didn't need another color, just wanted a backdrop for my artwork...

    Look at SW Accessible Beige

Thanks for all of the comments!

I looked at accessible beige first and it looked purply next to our gold carpet :( I wanted to like it so badly!

We have pops of color in our dining room and hearth room fireplace wall (riverway). We also have pops of color in our bathrooms (bake clay in the master). I love the idea of a terra cotta for the room! That said, I think living in the suburbs I need to be more neutral with the main living areas and provide color through art / décor for purposes of resale at some point.

I'm leaning toward the dark basket beige for now to create a more cozy feel but would love additional thoughts. . . . :)

Hi all. Just wanted to circle back and let you know we ended up with SW Softer Tan. While not a huge departure from what we had, it certainly lightens up the room which really needed a fresh coat of paint. It's also less "yellowy". The biggest improvement to us is the removal of the drapes which we never would have thought of. Thank you all for that suggestion!

Awesome! Anything else we can help with?

Hi happy leg. Thanks for asking! I think we are good for now.

We have tackled many projects over the last year so we plan to live with where we ar for a while ... until I get the itch again :) that itch will probably be replacing the carpet with hard woods and recovering the chairs.

Houzz has been invaluable to me in ideas for my dining room, foyer, office and living room. So grateful!

    What color is your trim?

    Benjamin More White Dove

I think I would paint the molding around the windows the same as the fireplace. A dark border at the floor will help to break it up.

Why can’t you leave that room a separate color from the rest of the house on the main floor? The same paint color will look different in every part of the house depending on the lighting the area receives.

Plus the sheen of the paint can affect the look. If you have a dark hallway using a paint with more gloss will help with bouncing light off the walls.

Laurie, I just now saw this. Love the Softer Tan!

It looks great! I love the urbane bronze, I might have to find a use for it somewhere. Where did you get the picture from? It's beautiful!

Hi Sheric68 - I also used urbane bronze on the inside of our front door in the foyer. Stunning! Will post pic tomorrow with daylight. I ordered the painting from an artist named Paula Nizamas. You can view her work at www.nizamas.com.

Thank you, couchgolfer! We are actually moving in May and so any further projects will be saved for our new home :)

Hi Sheric68 - As promised, here is a pic of the inside of our front door. It's a cloudy day here so it looks more black in this pic than it does in person. It's very pretty and brings the elegance of the foyer up a notch, IMO.

Sorry for the double post, but I remembered we have good pics of urbane bronze from our MLS listing.

Hello Laurie, I know it's been a couple of years but hoping you see this. What was the original color of the room please? Appreciated if you could respond :)

Hi Tasnuva - We have moved and I didn't keep the old records. For some reason SW Believable Buff sounds like it might be right? Sorry to not be sure!

Chloebud - We moved to Philly and I did our entire house in SW Canvas Tan (as you recommended for our KC house above). We LOVE that color. We were not bound by tan carpet in our new house and absolutely love it's warmth without the yellow!
