Always err on the side of less fertilization than more.

Fertilization follows growth, not precedes it, meaning, when growth initiates, then fertilize, and stingily always. You don't fertilize to stimulate growth per se. You fertilize to maintain growth already started.

Force a rose's growth and all you get is lush, disease and insect prone growth that handles winter poorly. Force a weakened rose and trouble follows.

In your zone, good winter survival is strategized for, all growing season long.

thanks Moses that's what I thought. I didn't want to encourage rose growth while the rose was stressed from the replanting.

I try to never fertilize a stressed plant...Wait until its more healthy if you wish to fertilize...

thanks Jim. I was pretty sure it wouldn't be a good idea but wanted to check first. We went from 40's on Sunday to 91 on Wednesday. My garden isn't acclimating to the crazy temp swings any better than I am.

Yes we had freezes in the upper 20's a few nights ago then two days of 90's and today was 86...Tomorrow its back to normal at 69 degrees...lol...Crazy for sure...lol

Jim- same here. Temps in 70's today though. So much better to be back to normal.
