Kordes Parfuma-First Crush on sale. And other rose ramblings....

Richmond, VA. I just saw this rose for 50% off at Lowe's. Did I add that this is a 2 gallon rose bush for $11 :) They also have dark desire. I don't much care for the color.

Wish they had Earth Angel(it's literally sold out on ALL online nurseries), but they don't:(

Anyway wanted to let anyone interested know about it. We rose lovers have to look out for each other. If anyone know of any clearance sales..drop a note:)

On an unrelated side note, just saw another rose there (HT-called Medallion). It's huge(5 inch) or so, beautiful color(apricot/cream_no pink) and fragrant(soft rose). It's definitely a cut flower. 15$(will wait for 50% off, I know in my bones it's coming). My heart's set on it.

Another interesting one I saw was Pierre Oger. All of the buds were balled and rotting. Looked poorly, but help me find has good member comments on it.

High Country Roses has Earth Angel on their website.

@Lilyfinch Thank you:) It's sooo beautiful!! Thank you for posting the pic. Some people posted finding EA on sale at Lowes. Ours unfortunately doesn't have EA. My Lowes has the same ones yours has. First crush have plenty of buds but they are being devoured by some bug, hope it's not the dreaded thrips..

Where did you get your EA from?

Thank you:) @noseometer..I have exhausted my quota of rose budget for the year after the order at RU. It's the word rose and sale in the same sentence that got me this time. In the meantime, here's the wishlist for next year;)

Earth Angel, Zephrine Drouhn, Souvenir D'un Ami(tea), Lady Hillingdon,Maria Stern, Just Joey, Tuscan Sun, Chihuly (I have no idea where I am going to put them though)...

The roses at High Country Roses are so reasonably priced, that they are practically on sale ;-) Just sayin'.

I ordered EA and MA from Northland and they both arrived with buds and are blooming now! I'm so glad I ordered, they are both gorgeous and have great fragrance. Thanks everyone for posting!

I hope everyone that has these types of roses available at your local big box stores appreciates how lucky they are. I have never seen or even heard of a potted Kordes rose for sale within an hour's drive of me - maybe farther, but that's as far as I've gone looking, and it's not like I live in the middle of nowhere (coastal CT). My local Home Depot and Lowes has rows and rows of knockouts and a smattering of bagged classics, none of which get the slightest bit of attention and are dead by June 1st almost every year. I have never seen and Austin or Kordes. Sometimes they'll get a shipment of Star offerings, but that's about it. (sad face)

I don't even get Star roses at the box stores. Just Knockouts, a smattering of mislabeled hybrid teas (i.e. pink roses labelled Chrysler Imperial), and some Icebergs. A few of the local nurseries have grafted potted Austins ($48 each) and mostly Weeks.

@ebharvey and noseometer..sorry to hear that, our box stores were just like that too. This is the first year, I saw a kordes there. But Walmart here carries a huge variety, you've got to get to them early spring. I got a lot of them from there, regular star performers in my no spray garden: queen elizabeth, Tiffany, Sunsprite, abe lincoln, Don Juan, Rio Samba(l think, lost the label..) and more recent addition which has been flowering non stop(I just planted these about two months ago) Heirloom, Angel and St Joseph's coat. I have to say St. Joseph Coat is delightful, striking colors and always flowering(spiky thorns). I do like to revive plants needing TLC. I digress, my point is you never know what you may find in these stores..it's fun to find an unusual rose.:)

@lilyfinch, I ordered Duchess de brabant, Alchymist, Crown Princess Margareta(My very first DA), Sugar Moon(i've been wanting a fragrant white rose).

@lilyfinch, I checked out the roses your ordered. DDC is so amazing( all those diff. variations of pink). I like GAC too but DDC got me..These are very good finds, they are star performers too. Most of the images I saw were surrounded with tons of buds.

Wow it sounds like you chose some fantastic roses! I'm interested in how your duchess de brabrant does for you ! I have 3 and they really bloom a lot but have not shot up and out yet ! I thought they would get huge fast but they are all under 2 ft. I am on a horribly windy hill so the winter really knocks them back . I also just got a new sugar moon band ! Looking forward to it blooming :)

good luck with yours ! I hope ddc is a success , I am a sucker for that color
