I wouldn't choose marble in a kitchen as it can be damaged to easily by something, such as lemon juice. Granite is a much better option.

Yep, classic white n black. Would love to be able to afford to play with some pink or black though.

Sometimes one can't afford the full luxury of an all marble bathroom or kitchen or even a floor. I am thinking of an art deco inspired black and white tiled bathroom, with verde alpe (dark green marble) strip along the walls or tozzetos on the floors. much cheaper and will do the effect at a fraction of the cost.

We have chosen black marble for bathrooms in a wonderful penthouse, but although it's gorgeous it's very difficult to maintain... Marble is a classic anyway and if you can afford it... Why not..:)

I also wouldn't have marble or actually granite as both are quite hard work. They stain from lemon juice and red wine and after years of looking after block worktops I'm changing them all (as part of an upgrade) to quartz. I'm going for a carrara lookalike which hopefully will do the job!

That's interesting @catriona - does the quartz look like marble (or faux marble) then?

Marble is more commonly used in the east where I'm from, so a little nostalgia played a role in my choice. I chose Carrara marble wall tiles for one of our bathrooms completed a week ago as there's less wear and tear on bathroom walls, adds a little bit of luxury and the local tile distributors stock faux marble tiles that didn't look quite right with either yellow tinges to them or OTT veining.

In addition, if you properly apply marble sealer, you can avoid/reduce staining. There are also granite sealers for countertops. I haven't had any stains on my kitchen granite counters but to be fair, they're polished black granite.

Hi Emmeline. yes you can get it to look like pretty much any type of marble. I did a lot of research as my husband will go mad if I change them again - this is the third time - and I decided to go for something really durable. In the course of looking into it all sorts of comments and advice emerged - and I have friend who have marble and granite so feedback from them as well. I know that you can seal but really I just want something I can wipe and not worry about.

We have just finished our bathroom project and also kitchen floor with a lovely ivory marble which has pinky and grey veins. Had many comments that it looks "stunning".
