The trend with homes is to run hardwood flooring (or laminate) through a room then add a rug under/around the bed. More specifically, the areas where you get out of bed. If your bedroom is above a garage, I would recommend carpet because your floor will be very cold in the winter. You have a wonderful windows! It looks pretty sunny so if you go with curtains make sure they are blackout lined so you can still block out the sun.

I want the walls a light grey so what colour of laminate would you suggest?

For the window treatments, the dark color of the blinds can make the room feel cozy or too closed in based on your personal preference. If you want a more open feel, consider a treatment that rolls up in to a cornice-type feature, so it opens the whole window up when you want to open up the room. (Thinking Roller Shades, or Hunter Douglas' Silhouette or Nantucket Shade) You could also do shutters. The wider slats will make the windows/walls seem less busy and add some elegance there.

Is that a door behind the couch?

Here there, here are a bunch of different ideas from our design portfolio. Putting up window treatments (drapes) instead of having the wooden blinds will help a lot with lighting. Also if you are getting rid of the carpet, make sure to add a rug under your bed. It also might be nice to take out the sconces you have on the wall and get bedside lamps instead.
