Queen quilt at the end of King bed?

My husband and I recently bought a king size bed and I already ordered new king bedding from pottery barn. I want to put a quilt folded at the end of the bed, but wanted to know if I could use a queen quilt folded at the end of the bed? I just wanted a second opinion to make sure it wouldn't look funny or to short on the sides.

King beds are 76" wide, if you fold a Queen quilt that is 90 x 95 the long way, you will have approximately 9" overhang on each side. That amount would work for me.

It won't overhang the sides much at all, and yes, it will look funny.

As long as you have room on the sides for decent sized night stands, go for the King. I think the most important area where you want space is at the foot. You are right to nix the footboard...makes changing the sheets or making the bed more difficult. If you have room, just add a small bench to finish off the look of a footboard and to have some place to sit when putting on shoes, etc. And go for something like the Simmons Beautyrest...you know...the "jump-on-the bed-with-a-wine-glass-sitting-on-the-mattress-and-it-doesn't-move" bed. We love the fact that if the other gets out of bed the other doesn't even know.

Thanks, Seattle. That is the reason for what I am asking help. I think that you are the one who nailed. It. I will probably need to buy a down in king size also. But I think that it will be too expensive. Let's see what I can do.

The outlets are a bit high but I would just scoot the nightstand on the left over a bit and use the bottom plug. If you use a lamp with a solid base, you'll hardly notice it. I would do a blackout roller shade on the window with blackout panels on either side and matching panels for the slider. I would keep everything clean and simple to go with the modern look of the furniture. This quilt is modern and has a beautiful design on it. My Queen comforter is 86 x 86. Which leaves 5" on either side of the king mattress, and it did not lie very flat, but stuck out.. Looked funny to me. Comforters/quilts sizes vary quite a bit by manufacturer.

On our queen bed we use a twin folded the long way. It overhangs about 10" on either side and I think it looks pretty good.

Daisha is a good idea. Save money by buying a twin quilt.

I think it will be fine. Not sure how far it will hang down but I think it will look fine even if it's not hanging down much or at all over the sides. I have a queen bed and a throw blanket folded longways at the bottom of ours and the lack of overhang has never bothered me.

I think it depends on the drape of the comforter and the bed. If the smaller comforter is puffy and just hangs over a couple of inches it will always look like it is sticking up. Or if the bed has a foot board you'll have to take that into consideration as well. I'm all for saving money and I think the idea of adding something smaller is a great idea.

If it's just something folded at the bottom on top of the bedding sized to the bed, it doesn't really bother me one way or the other.

I think it should be totally fine, but in case it isn't, how do you feel about folding it on the bias (diagonal), lengthening it? Depending on the shape and pattern of the quilt, it might require some creative origami (or not, lol), but you should be able to gain several inches.

sushi, I was just using my ex. to show that if she can get something that hangs over less than the optimal amount, it can look good even if it is folded length wise instead of width wise.

Try laying it kitty cornered on your bed.....still have the color and it will hang over the bed a little. Otherwise fold the queen the long way and it should hang over the sides.

My dog does not mind a thin queen duvet folded over the bottom of our king bed at all. It is so much easier to pull up and fold down each day and easy to wash often.
