Crown moulding and high windows

I'm in the process of installing crown moulding, room by room, though out my condo. I have 9' ceilings in every room so I've gone with mouldings that were 4.5" down the wall. That's where my problem comes in. I'm coming up to the kitchen and I've noticed that one of my kitchen window frames comes within 3.75" of the ceiling. Will it look strange to use a 3.5" moulding so it will fit into the space? It wouldn't leave much room between the window moulding and crown moulding.

My other thought would be to extend the window mouldings all the way to the ceiling and have the crown moulding create a cornice over the windows. Problem with that, my windows aren't the same size, as this is a vintage condo and they were originally in separate rooms. The other window has about 5" between ceiling and it's window moulding, so it's cornice would be a bit larger that way.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Easy solution: don't do it! This looks like a modern place with some vintage aspects, and none of that goes with crown molding. At the very least, keep it to the rooms you've already done, and skip the kitchen, which will probably present further headaches when you get around to the cabinets too...

I love moulding, so forgive me, my post is biased. If you think it will look good and make you happy go for it. Moulding can always be removed later.

Houzz had a lovely photo where the window frame was part of the moulding.. I am not sure if this could work but I just happened on the photo and thought it might help you discover if you want to keep the moulding or scrap it... Ideas can always help with your own space. This might be a solution for you.

I agree with Boxerpal! This is a PERFECT solution to beautify our outdated decor to match the brand new windows we just installed as part of a remodel to sell reno! Thanks @Boxerpal! :)
