How about a few shades up on the color strip of the French Country Blue that you painted the island?

Yes - there will be a backsplash in off white with an accent tile pattern with gray and blue in it (very old world looking)

I like the blue idea - you mean a paler version I'm assuming? I also like the yellow....just afraid it may seem like too much additional color...

Very pretty. I have my cabinets on order, so i will be anxious to get as far along as you are. I really like the taupe. I am going with gray shaker on the perimeter with a cafe brown island.

You don't have that much wall space. What are you going to do for the backsplash?

Backsplash is bright almond white subway tile with diamonds of patterned tile with blue and charcoal grey accent. There isn't much to paint in this space but it is part of a larger room that I want to paint all one color.

I'm worried about yellow with taupe as well - that's why I'm leaning towards the lighter blue...?

I agree the blue would look beautiful. Here is a photo of creamy/butter yellow cabinets, which may look nice on the walls since you will have the backsplash of off white/gray/blue.

Not sure what color blue your island is but here are a few ideas that you can take a look at

Hi Margo - the room overall is a long rectangle with the kitchen covering one half - the rest of the space is a bit undecided - when I recover from the kitchen sticker shock, I think I'll put a couple of squishy chairs and make a little sitting area with plants and a coffee table...

The island is Benjamin moore's Buckland Blue. I just looked at a shade one or two down from it - may pick up a couple of samples...

I think a golden yellow would work just fine. More pictures would be helpful to determine that. Would like to see a sample of the backsplash. Golden and rich yellows are very popular in old world, French Country styles. You'd just have to make sure it is the right hue to not clash with the blue or the taupe cabinets. It can work! I like the one Darzy shared. Get something similar and check the hue next to each surface.

I think yellow would not be the right color for your walls. I would like to see the backsplash too before I can make any suggestions for you.

I'm a little worried about the yellow with the taupe cabinets as well. It would be easier to complement the cabinets with a blue because a golden/butter yellow color would have to be the perfect shade to work. I'm with CHISM Bros finding the right hue next to all finishes. The right one would look nice IF you wanted to introduce another color to your french country style. Oh.. I LOVE your tile too! Yummy! Regardless which you chose, it's going to look fantastic. you have great taste. :)

I would consider a light putty color like a true plaster wall (a light gray /taupe). Better yet, have a decorative painter do a subtle glaze or apply a chalky plaster finish. I would not rule out finding a sophisticated taupe and ivory French country toile wallpaper. And yes a blue a couple of shades lighter than your island would also work. Kudos to you for choosing the unpredictable cabinet paint colors. It is going to be a very charming kitchen!

Now that I see the backsplash, I'd vote for the putty, plaster color. That would look rich and bring out the colors in the tile and cabinetry. I'd do a Santa Barbara, texture.

Or a less expensive route is to paint it a putty color and do a light glaze (Color Wash).
