Which wall art looks best?

We are having a very hard time finding some wall decor for this wall. Which one looks better? The arrows or circular wall art? I posted 3 pics of each one to get a good idea of what the living room looks like

They are both blue, gray and white

I like the larger one. That is a big wall to fill.

I find the circular one more interesting and with a bit more contrast to the linear vibe of the rug. If it were my room, I'd want something not quite as similar to the rug, with more color, but if these suit your vision, then it's the one I would choose.

    Or this?

I'd get the circular one and paint the lamp bases something other than brown and change out the lampshades for an off white.

    Circular.

Here's another idea. Go to art.com and look at Franz Kline. You want the art to go together without being the same. Really great sale right now.

    http://www.art.com/gallery/id--a2/franz-kline-posters.htm?rflag=true

Or here, big size Kline reproductions.

    Or, hit etsy.

Of the two, I like the 2nd choice better but that was my first thought too that they are too similar to the rug.

I don't like either. You need more color, and something more interesting.

What a great room, Pennzies! I personally prefer the Rolling Waves or something like the abstract that Justerrilynn posted. I like those additional pops of color. I also like them because they don't just echo your rug. Your personal art should make YOU happy when you look at it. This will be a major focus in your living room. What will make YOU happy to look at every day for the next few years???

I agree with the posters that say neither. Both choices look too much like your rug like eld6161 said. The wall needs color. The paintings in separated pieces seem like an affectation. One large painting with color is what is needed. I like the one that justerrilynn posted from Etsy.

    Love Kline!

I think a large singular piece of art with some color would add a great deal to the room. When you repeat the same colors over and over it can become too matchy matchy. I'm sure there are other colors you like, perhaps find one with those colors and you may like it much better. It takes time to decorate and lots of thought. So far the room looks good though.

Neither. Rolling waves is better. I think you need some color.

The room is screaming for some color. Be brave, and go with YOUR taste. Buying what I truly like, not settling for the most affordable, acceptable thing has left me with pictures that I have had for decades and I still love them. That saves money in the long run.

Thank you everyone for your advice!! I think I'm going to go with the rolling waves or this one below. Thoughts?

Or this! Ok so which one out of the 3? I love them all! Rolling waves, abstract 625 or I love the rain??

When everything in a room is matchy, the room can appear muddled because there is nothing to catch the eye. All the surfaces blend together. Think of your favorite colors and find some art, pillows and coffee table decor in those colors. They will be like jewelry for your room and pull everything together.

I don't know if you have your heart set on art, but a big map would also look nice over your sofa.

Did you see my post above? I've narrowed it down to 3 options

:) Now I see it. I was writing my post and researching pictures while you were posting your pics. All the choices are nice and similar so I would pick the one that you like best.

While I like the Waves best, the three sections too closely mirror the three segments of your couch. Of the other two, I prefer the Rain.

Can you please explain the reason why your choices in your OP and your choice of Rolling Waves and Abstract 625 above are all in sections? I don't like the look in general, but in your living room, because your couch has dividing lines, your rug has strong vertical lines, the blinds, the square tables, everything seems to have straight lines, and make it odd-looking. I am sorry, just MHO! I would do one large painting, something with curves in it. Though I am curious to know why you want the sectioned art.

And yes to your I Love the Rain canvas out of what you've shown, due to the much-needed color, but I wish you could find something with curves in it rather than lines, cause even the rain is falling in lines.

Out of first two, second one because the circle in the art helps break up all the squares in the room.

I see you narrowed to three. I like rolling waves. I like that it has a larger block of color. It's just more interesting. I like rolling waves better than number 2 also.

Lol I don't know why I am obsessed with straight lines! Haha! And I guess it seems the ones that are in sections seem to appear larger which would help bc the wall is large

I'm leaning more towards the rolling waves which are not straight lines :)

Rolling Waves is too dark. Your room is dark. The sofa, carpet, tables, lamp shades, flooring, all dark dark. You need the art to be lighter.

Summer is the time for local art fairs. I would see if there are any in your area. You might find some art you like at a fair, or an artist you like. If you like an artist (one who is not linear, but who enjoys painting nature or curved abstracts), you can commission him/her to do a very large painting (not in sections, all in one piece :) ) Or, buy two pieces of art - different pieces, not one piece cut in sections - and hang both on that wall.

Totally different direction, but I think it hits your checklist. Andy Warhol did a series called "Flowers". He did a number of them in different colors, and his intention is that you hang several of them close together. They are modern and current and chic, have color, have curves, and also allow you to do art "in pieces" that you seem to like.

You can buy the Warhol Flowers posters inexpensively online, and they come in quite a number of sizes. You could hang 2 or 3 large ones together in a row, or buy the smaller size and do 4 or 6. I have seen the 4 done several times in Architectural Digest, so that overall you have a square that you seem to be drawn to, while still adding color and a natural element.

These pics show the large size, but I've seen them much smaller and people do 9 small ones together too.

I wouldn't be in such a rush to get something up there. Save a bit more money for the art. If you do one large piece like a 72" x 36" or 24 or even something close ...just the cost of a blank canvas will be over $300 before anyone does some painting on it. Unless of course the artist buys the canvases in bulk for a cheaper rate. Still pricey though. That said, I have gotten great deals on original art on eBay auctions. You can also find large art in thrift stores and Craigslist or moving/garage sales. It's fun looking for just the right art. I'm sorry but to me your wall would look better blank than with those matching section-y things.

I like the Rolling Waves and then add some cushions and accessories in the blue, mustard, turquoise.

I so agree with the posters who recommend you hold off making a decision. Selecting art as "decor" is what you expect in a waiting room, something that is selected with no more meaning than it "goes" with the paint, carpet and furniture. When artwork is selected because it is meaningful and resonates to the owner, that personal connection is felt by the viewer and elevates an impersonal space into something expressive and relevant..

I like your last few selections - the blues will look nice in that room. I do agree with another poster who said with your sofa being in 3 sections it would be better to have one piece of art.

I agree with those who suggest off until you can find just the right piece(s). To be honest, that "decor art" looks like something you'd find in a bad model home. Look at Etsy, Craig's list, garage sales, local art fairs. Try to find things that don't look mass produced.

As for the Warhol flowers, I have had a huge one hanging in my kitchen for many years now. When I bought it it seemed fresh enough, but now that it is "everywhere" I am just hating it and want to replace it when I find the right piece to replace it with.

Awww - that would just kill Andy Warhol to hear that. The idea of being "commonplace" - not Andy Warhol! I think that because the colors are cheerful, the Flowers became hugely popular amidst so much other modern art that is dreary and unimaginative.

Awww - that would just kill Andy Warhol to hear that

Thankfully as he's already dead, I have not caused him further pain.

Well this one was already in the mail so we are trying it out

IMO, it is still too dark and linear. But, if you like it and it makes you happy when you walk in the room then you should keep it. You have to look at it every day. We do not.

I like the newest art. Your couches are brown correct? and the rug is white/off-white with black and greys?? or that is what I pick up on my computer screen or is there blue in the rug too?

Art.com has a section of "loft art" where the paintings are 84"x48", 54"x54", etc. I wonder if you need something overscale?

My vote is for the circular painting. Seems you have a lot of rectangular shapes going on. As for color...some people prefer monochromatic and the repetition of favorite colors...grey and beige. Nothing wrong with that and it can be calming. I might suggest introducing other elements like white faux fur pillows, a tray for your coffee table, maybe a touch of shimmer with mercury glass. Have you considered hanging other pieces by your artwork? Stacked round mirrors would help fill up the large wall and add a little pizazz repeating the circle shape of the art. I think you should pull your recliner more to the center of the room and also move the palm plant from the corner to where the woven basket is. This is just from my perspective. Good luck.

I'm another that thinks your room doesn't need a pop of colour and still prefer the larger, circular artwork. The wall is just so large that personally, I think monochromatic might work better. And the the four panel over three or a very large single piece.

That art by itself looks too small to me.

Agree with Christy and cookie. I think your room lends itself to a monochromatic color scheme (no "pop" of color). I also think the circular art works in size and subject.

I like the newly hung pieces in your room and would stop looking!
